We are coming to pollensa on the 3rd october. Where is the best restaurant either in the old town or the port to get lobster? This will be a birthday treat for my husband. Thanks.

Best to pop into your chosen restaurants and get them to order one. There's a nice big fish restaurant in Alcudia, right on the front on the port area, called the Miramar they do lot's of lobster dishes, but the lobster seemed expensive to me, other fish dishes seemed OK.

I think La Llonja do great lobster - or it looks great, to be honest I have never tried it because of the price which was extortionate, but last time we were in there a Spanish family were having it to celebrate a birthday and they all seemed very happy with it. You get to pick it out of a tank. They also have a lobster tank at the Yacht Club and I am guessing it would be good there also. All in all though lobster seemed more expensive than in the UK. The Clivia do a really lovely seafood paella which features lots of lobster - can personally recommend that one.

El Patro at cala san vicente..it is on cal barcas beach which is the first one you drop down to off the beach , park in the car park and walk down some steps and it is on your right .. red gingham table cloths.. sometimes booking is advisable

Fresh lobster in the fishmongers was €26 per kilo on Friday, so goodness knows how much the restaurants will charge. You do have to pre-order in a lot of places and they will tell you how much it will be.
We had Calderetta (lobster soup) in El Posito a few weeks ago and it was fantastic, i can't remember how much it was but hubby had had a good win on the fruit machine so we splashed out.:D

Fresh Lobster

Sparky, E26 a kilo! The restaurant i recommended (Miramar, Alcudia) was E126 a kilo:eek: Julio Inglisias(sp) once sang there, think thay must be still paying him:D

lobster in pp

Sparky, That wasn't the dearest! My friends actually went for the crab paella instead. We had the fish baked in salt, about 16E, which was delicious, and good value.

Crab paella and fish baked in salt sounds, lovely Smiddy. At €16 that is reasonable.:)

thanks all - those suggestions have helped focus my search!

Hi there,
Try Galeon restaurant, Llenaire, on the front. They have lobsters in tank to choose from but I don't know the cost.
Hope this helps.

How do they serve Lobster in PP? Does it come on or off the shell? We have only ever had it once here (Andrew fairlies at Gleneagles) and it was stunning. It was a starter and the meat had been taken out the shells and either the meat or the shells were smoked, cant remember which!!! Beautiful.

The ones I've seen served at La LLonja and also La Terraza in Alcanada have been the whole thing and you get all you hooks and scissore to eat it with. I love lobster and it is fun to eat but such a performance

We were at La Terraza last year when a right 'Jack the lad' came in with a very young thing on his arm and sat at the table next to us. Obviously out to impress he ordered lobster and the waiter took her to the tank to choose one which she did with a bemused look on her face. When it arrived at the table she looked horrified and had obviously not realised what she was going to get. She then proceeded to fiddle around with it for a bit, as well a squealing quite a lot, before announcing she'd had enough. It had hardly been touched!

It was a great bit of entertainment and we all sat watching, stifling our giggles!

At 140€ I hope the guy thought it was money well spent  What do they say about no such thing as a free lunch;)

Debz,

Enjoyed this one. As a son of Musselburgh (lived in Fisherrow though!). I have, on occassion enjoyed the fruits of the sea. I cannot be bothered, with the hype over preparing, cleaning, cooking and eating lobster. Just buy it from Costco as I do. However, at 140e's who was caught in the creel?

jimbo ( off to set the pots!)

was in ullapool on the far north west coast of scotland on business last week

the quayside is jam packed with spanish fishing boats and buyers

took a walk into the market and the local lobster were selling for between £5.00 and £7.00 a kilo most of it going to spain from what I could see

quite a mark up before it lands on your plate in pp

there was 1 old fisherman type guy boiling up lobster in a 45 gallon drum cut in half selling to passers by and tourists for £15  no keen on lobster so didnt bother
