It seems we have another new bar just off the square opposite Bony and next door to the doctors surgery...........it's called "Why not?" :D.

Personally I think its a shame that we are getting a lot of bars and restaurants with English names. I love the Spanish named bars and restaurants; Manzanas Y Peras, O'Lume, Trencadora, Los Zarzales etc etc. But obviously if it is English sounding you know what you are getting - and what you are not!

Walked past this evening while enjoying the tapas route and 'Why not?" was mobbed with locals - we may try to pop in on another evening if its a little less crowded :)

Maybe i will suggest they change the name to "Por que no?" ;).

I have found out that tonight was the opening party so all those people were guests, apparently it's being run by a family from Pollensa :).

I recently looked at some family photos of PP in the 1980's. What struck me was how "foreign" it looked, such a relatively short time ago. Spanish words and signage, cars that we didn't have in the UK - I'm sure many will recall just what I mean.

Only one picture has any english on it, and that the word Hamburger!

Yes back in the 80's I remember watching the daily deliveries of Coffee Beans to most of the cafes/restaurants on the front (this did make us think this is very different to home, which we love).

Re the Lovemallorca's comment about " Cars we didn't have in the uk ".

Very true, I have been coming here every year since 1972 and if anyone doubts what tourism has done for this island then look no further than the cars owned then to now. Especially the taxis.:)

Ps...... Having gone off topic I'm just off to give myself 20 lashes before anyone else mentions it.

Back on topic :) re the new bar. If its the place I'm thinking of its not very big inside . Or am I thinking of the wrong place.?

I remember Pat & Debs. It was nice friendly little bar - such a shame they left. I believe they had trouble with the building/landlord and couldn't continue on the premises?

We used to pop into Pat and Debs with the kids, was excellent value and very friendly service. Were disappointed when it closed so will try this new one in the summer!!

Excellent, a new bar.:)
Arriving on Sunday for 12 days of sun so will definately spend some hard earned euros there.
Hope their JD and cokes are more Bony's size and not the cafe opposite Bony on the right.
Good luck to the new owners.

Has anyone been in this bar yet? Every time we have walked past it has been empty - it is a bit too pink for us!

Why not?

Maybe a coincidence but Why Not ? was the logo for the old Tolo's bar in Cala San Vicente where we spent numerous happy evenings many years ago in the good old days before the hotels around went all inclusive.. And hence my username!
Tolo was a loveable rogue who enhanced many holidays, he always thought we had drunk more G & T's than we did come the evening round up. Good memories of Chris and Bridget from Chester and also Oliver from Germany
Maybe his son?

TheFussies visited Why Not on a number of occasions. The people running bar are very friendly, drinks prices for square very reasonable. Bar is run as much for Spanish finishing work and having a drink on way home. So not too many tourists. MissFussie didn't like the toilets was only real complaint. Mr & MrsFussie enjoyed our time there.
