Can anybody recommend or advise the best method of getting wifi in my apartment?

Will need it for circa 6 months of the year, and would like to be able switch it on/off remotely. ConectaBalear looks good but are there any alternatives?

Thanks

Andy

We use Ibred who have an office in Pollensa. They allow us to shut it off for 3 or 4 months. It's a decent price which allows us to use a firestick

We're still renting at the moment, in a house with no wifi, so we had to sort it ourselves. We're using these guys at the moment.

We bought a mifi router from mediamarkt and have a PAYG vodaphone sim with 300gb of data a month for just under 40€. We run a firestick, 2 mobiles and an ipad off it and it seems OK.

I had the same set up when I first moved here. It worked fine for me.

Appreciate you're renting but 100mb fibre with Movistar without a contract (and obviously unlimited data) is €30 per month. To watch tv uses appox 15gb per hour (depends if hd etc). There other cheaper alternatives than Movistar but invariably require a contract.

Looks like im moving over to connected balears. They're pretty good to chat to via email. Only downside of their €29 tariff is €150 cancellation fee ( and the fact I have to stay here for the next 2 weeks for them to install... not a problem).

Well, Connected Baleares called a day early and got us plugged in. They phoned first to confirm.

They replaced the Movistar all-in-one modem/wifi router with a little Nokia Fibre Modem and this has a WAN cable into a separate "NuCom" Wireless router... which is garbage. It can barely send wifi into the next room... looks like I'll need to buy a decent TP Link type box, maybe get a mesh system...

Speedtest shows a rock solid 100-110MBps up and down so the service is good.

I would strongly recommend Nova mesh. We have them all around the family now. Easy to install, powerful and cost effective. Available on Amazon.

I ended up getting TP Link M4 as I use these in the UK too and have the app on the phone to control them. 3 pack for €120.

Only issue installing was that you cant ditch the NuCom box so the I now have 3 boxes sat under my desk and 2 wifi systems... ConectaBalears support are pretty decent though and can turn off their wifi if I want to.

Cancelling the old Jazztel/Tiekom was easy enough. Just emailed the support and need to pop the old router in the post.... but now I've done it my Facebook is filling up with ads for Jazztel at lower prices...

IbRed or Fibwi

We use our apartment for holidays. We have tried a TPLink but we never seemed to get the hang of it and if we ever used it with all our family out there , it didn't last very long. We're looking at IbRed or Fibwi and wonder if anybody has experience of these. We just want internet, no mobile or landline. We are a first floor apartment so I think we would need fibre connection. Your thoughts and advice would be greatly appreciated.

I also can’t fault ibRed. This is where I am at present. We have a “Holiday” contract with ibRed. It’s costs 420 euros for 6 months and once you start the 6 months you can’t stop it. You can extend the contract by adding months. I usually extend as, like this year i will be coming over early to get my “P. P. Fix” Installation is with a dish and does not require a phone line and it is 14mb download speed. So last year year the cost was about 520 Euros.
I spoke to ibRed and they said that I can have a fibre optic fitted. No installation costs and modem is free. The spec is 300mb at 29 euros a month or 600mb at 39 euros. Even the 600mb shows a saving over the whole year.

I've just moved from Movistar to O2. Same company so didn't even have to change router it was instant swap.

PP is a restricted zone so they have to sell at a set price. Unlike in Palma and Inca where they can sell cheaper.

For Fibre only is €33 (I think) a month but if you lived in Palma is would be €27! We have a mobile as well so pay a bit more. Same package with Movistar was €14 more expensive.

We changed to fibre optic when IB-Red made it available in our street last year. Originally €29 pm for 100mb it has since been upgraded to 300mb at no extra cost. The staff in the office in Pollensa are also really helpful.

While we were at the apartment last week ib-Red turned up, bang on time, and fitted our new fibre line into the apartment. No problem and completed in about 1.5 hrs. Very clean and tidy job carried out by two polite engineers. As stated before we are now paying 29 euros/month for 300mb. When finished the engineer ran a test and even on a mobile device the result was showing about 320+mb. Well pleased.
