Hi to all communication geeks

Just returned from PP and found a new WIFI source, Bony's bar in the square now have WIFI, pretty sure it's free for the price of a drink.

Has anybody else found anymore sources?

Thanks for the info. Fletchers was advertising WIFI back in April, but never actually had it, do they actually have it now and if so is it free or timed by the minute?

Los Zarzales, this would be really handy for me but can you just have a drink or do you have to have a meal?

It's great to see more and more places are adding WIFI to their premises.

Hi Whaley. Add hotel Daina to your list. Used their wi fi back in June ,just bought a coffee and sat there doing our thing. No one asked for any money so must assume its free. We used it all week at no cost so good luck.

An article regarding WiFi availability appeared in yesterdays Daily Bulletin, stating that WiFi was being made available on the major tourist beaches in Majorca. Here is an extract that may be of interest:

'Alcudia and Son Servera have already begun setting up Wi-fi facilities on their beaches. Alcudia had its network up and running a month ago. The service offers 34 megabytes per second 24 hours a day.'

I wonder how long it will be before WiFi is freely available in PP?

Might be freely available, but not for free.

Also dont forget that public wifi is not usually very secure.

read about hamster and ferret etc, never log into anywhere important from some elses wifi, as you never know who is accessing the data.

This makes interesting reading Mark, I wonder how many people realise how vulnerable they are when using Wifi but when on holiday it seems the ideal solution.

Re using your laptop on the beach - surely places in the same vicinity would be able to pick up the signal also.

Bit of a con advertising 'freely available Wifi' for a fee!

For the near future I will probably keep going to my local internet cafe until someone can convince me that Wifi is safe to use, without being hacked - but then I ask myself "How safe are internet cafe's"?

Any hacker near enough to a laptop connected to a wifi network could do his stuff, so could happen anywhere.

Also a risk from 'Evil Twin Attack' where a copy of a real wifi acces point is created on a laptop with wifi card etc ( hidden in a back pack) and people are lured into connecting to it while the hacker has a beer or coffee...

So be careful never to do any financial transactions or log into email accounts on anyone elses internet connection, as you never who is recording the data.

I always use a vodafone spain 3G data USB modem when on holiday.
Cheap enough and safe as there are no hacking tools that I am aware of.
This uses mobile phone network for data so you are connected directly to vodafone rather than a wifi hotspot.

(The reason I know all this stuff is that I run a few websites that take online card payments from our customers, so I am well aware of all the tricks the hackers get up to - I like to be one step ahead )

Re Fletchers bar - They advertise wifi but they do not have wifi! Don't know if this is just a ploy to get people in! (we were there for a month)

There is another cafe just around the corner from Fletchers (on the front) called 'Luv Juice' they also advertise wifi but on enquiring they did not have it either, and funnily enough the guy that owns Fletchers was sitting having a drink in there!

Just wondering if anybody knows if either of these bars actually has wifi now (6 months down the line!).

September 08 Update

Just returned from PP with my trusty little Asus eee pc (wonderful machine). I found the confort and convenience of the facilities in the Hotel Daina were superb. They offer free wifi, you just need to buy a drink and ask for the code, you can then surf for as long as you want. I found it pleasant in the reception area, sitting on the comfy sofa's. Drinks were reasonably priced also

More and more places seem to be offering wifi, anybody else found new ones this year?
