I have been meaning to ask about this for ages

In Pollensa Town just along the road from cellar el molí there is an abandoned building. It is quite grand ..... looks like it could have been a large house or a monestary or similar. There is quite a bit of land behind it and lots of ornate pillars etc in the garden area

Just wondered if anyone knew anything about it?

I sure this has been discussed before and remember the answer was an old carpet factory.

The piece below plus Pic (I hope) confirms this

In Pollença, there is the once beautiful building of Can Morató, an erstwhile carpet factory (photo centre), now in a deplorable state.

Thought it was a ceramics factory!

That's the place - such a waste

They were talking about making it into a museum at one stage, it is a waste, I expect the owner is siting on it waiting to sell it

No you are right carpet factory there is an article in the DB about it today

and you can see the road alterations outside it that they made here as well, new road and kerbs

Let's hope it can be saved and restored as close to its original state before some developer and/or architect demolishes it and builds something faceless there.
Once it's gone it's gone forever.

The town hall have it earmarked believe me, there are follow ups in the Spanish/Mallorquin newspapers, you can read about it there .

We have just returned from a lovely weekend in Pollensa and whilst out walking we went past this building and not for the first time wondered about its origins and were pondering on how it could be restored. Cannot believe the question has been asked so soon after, hope it is restored.

Can Morató restoration waiting on planning permission

Colonya Caixa Pollença, which in January reached an agreement to acquire the old (and decaying) Can Morató carpet factory in Pollensa, has received some fifty architects' proposals for restoring the building.

Production at Can Morató started in 1922. It ended in 1967, since when the building has been allowed to deteriorate to the point where it is unsafe. Rather than it being demolished, there has been a determination to preserve it because of its industrial heritage. ...

The bank's intention is to use the restored factory as its headquarters. The building will also be used for cultural activities. The acquisition hasn't been finalised, ...

The acquisition is due to be completed in January 2021, the bank's CEO, Gabriel Bauzá saying that "we don't want to have wait years".

Apparently one of the carpets made there is in The White House!

I read that somewhere.

Used to climb to the top of the tower with my sons when they were a lot younger. Not recommended, if I did it now the whole thing would collapse.
