Taxis in PP/Alcudia

Good morning,
My wife has just mentioned that she’s heard local taxis are not available to hire now, just taxis from the airport. Can anyone clarify if this is the case or can you still get a taxi say from PP to say Alcudia Hidroparc ?

Nah, I know they were in short supply but there have always been enough.

Does she mean Uber? They're certainly not allowed. And there have been stories about unlicensed taxi drivers being arrested?

I think it was just in July/August when car rentals were extortionate so a lot of tourists, who would usually hire a car, needed a taxi to and from the airport. Not a problem now.

There were lots of taxis at the rank last week when we were there. The problem in the summer now seems to have resolved.

is it true that the PP Taxis phone number is no longer in service and you have to you the App Mallorcacabs instead?

I think if you phone the Pollensa Taxis number, all you get is a recorded message advising you to make the booking via the Mallorcab App. Recently, it worked well for us (although we only used it once - during the evening), but on the other hand we met a couple at the larger Eroski who had been waiting for over an hour to take them home with their shopping. Subsequently, when we mentioned this to the taxi driver who took us to Palma airport, he told us that generally speaking, drivers are not keen on pickups at supermarkets (obviously, that’s hearsay and I don’t have any evidence of that)

Okay thanks Teacu....I ask, as my Sis and bro in law are hiring a villa in CSV next week and although they have a car, are planning to use taxi's at times. If they got a taxi to Pollensa, is the Taxi rank still there, or would they book a pick up on the app?

We were in the port in May. The " new " Taxi Rank behind the church was in operation of a sort.
Not very well managed as the cabs, if present, were not parked in any sensible manner. Some in the sideroad leading to the square and some in the crossroad bays. Some even down the road on the opposite side.
On approaching not obvious which was the next available cab. When enquiring at what often appeared to be the first in line we were often directed up and down the road(s) from cab to cab.
On one occasion was directed down the road on the opposite side even though other cabs on the rank itself. NO WAY.
We ended up in the end, on many occasions, standing on the corner with arm raised calling out for " numero uno" until the drivers sorted it out amongst themselves.
We tend to use the service! about 10 nights during our stay. Became part of our warped amusement.
Back to the fun in September. Interested in seeing if any improvement.

The taxi rank is still there in Pollensa, by the bus stop.

Often a big queue on market day (Sunday), we find it easier to take the, often very crowded, bus.
