Smoking ban

Re segregation. Yes you are very clever bunnies in taking me to task over that slip up. I had thought about restaurants finding a way to keep both smokers and non smokers happy - as they do in UK pubs etc by having outside areas for smokers. But obviously if there is a total ban it will also include outside areas of the restaurant. So I apologise for not thinking it through properly.

Smiddy - as what one might class as a casual smoker i.e. one that only has a ciggy when out socialising but going to the pub maybe 3 times a week for a couple of beers - I never go now and how many others do not - that adds up to alot of lost punters in the pubs:eek:

Ah but there is the flip side to that coin ofcourse. As a non smoker I rarely went into pubs, and now girlie lunchtimes, ladies who lunch, pop ins at weekends, theres a few more of us going in than used to .................:p!

As one who finds it easier to go without alcohol i also stopped going out to the pub especially if the weather was bad.

I suppose it just goes to show that we all enjoy different environments in different ways and for different reasons. Viva La difference! It's late, I can't work out the translation!;)

I knew what you meant Bella!!
You were seeing both sides of the argument which a good debate is all about!
I think your meaning was understood by others too!

I agree that in an ideal world it would be good to keep all happy but it isn't an ideal world. - (Like the link on this thread though for smoking shelters - I wonder how they would work? )

As already said, if the law is brought in then that is that - there will be no negotiation as it would be expected that the law will be respected.

Maybe the drink driving law is also a consideration as well as to smoke or not to smoke - but thats for a different debate!

Sounds great Bella - add me to the list! lol

Whatever the translation I think we know what you mean, Bella.
I agree with your thinking here.

Thank God we are all different too - wouldn't it be boring if we were all the same, with the same ideas and same likes and dislikes.

And to quote Bella again - Viva La difference!

Eleanor

You could have saved yourself a bit of typing the last 3 messages and said " I agree with Nick *crosses out* Bella!

Adios

Dave

Oh well - does wonders for my touch typing skills!

I agree with Nick too! In fact i'm very good at telling people when I agree with them and when I don't ...........oh dear!! lol

Oh and by the way Dave - I even agree with you!

The article I read about the No Smoking, said that it would be allowed on terraces, so would have thought that all could be accommodated. Hotels must decide if they allow smoking in individual rooms.

dont see what you mean by segregation apart from no smoking inside, smoking outside

Segregation is the action or state of setting someone or something apart from other people or things.

Sorry Sparky - not sure if this is still on topic or not?

The bottom line is, come January 1st 2011 Spanish law will say that smoking inside bars and restaurants is banned. It doesn't matter where i live....the law is the law and i will abide by it, as i did when i was living in England and if the weather is bad i will stay at home and enjoy my ciggy. Simples ;):D.

Don't worry Sparky, if it's too cold this winter we'll come round to your house for a chat;). Mind you, In Scotland, if your due to be visited by a health worker moves are afoot to ban you from smoking in your own house:eek:
