Where IS the new Neptuno please, the location doesn't appear to have been mentioned during this topic, I presume it's not where the old one was. I'm sure there was recently some talk on the Forum of this being refurbished as a restaurant, is this correct, because earlier posts suggested it may be converted to yet more residential accommodation. (I may have got this last bit wrong, but don't think so).

Thanks very much for any comments, the thought of Pollensa not having an establishment such as Neptuno doesn't bare thinking about, (just don't start me off on the demise of the old Coach House, another great local place still sorely missed)

Hi Pinewalker, it is actually where the old one was, new owners though

I tried this for the first time last week and yes the food was very good but, oh dear the heart and soul of the old place has gone i'm afraid. The days where you could crash out in one of the wicker chairs and spend a long lazy evening are no more. Clinical is one word for it. The feeling now seems to be sit down, eat and go. Of course the fact that the whole of that side is the same owner does not help matters. Obviously anyone who did not know the old place may think it's ok but for my part i won't be rushing back.:(

A friend of mine ate there one night recently, ordered from Menu of Day but was then charged differently. When questioned the answer was they had the big chops!!!. After standing her ground re what she ordered they did reduce it but unfortunately it put her off even thoughthe food was good.

Tapas in the new Neptuno

Yes, the place has changed quite a bit but we decided to give it a try.

The tapas were really good and the staff we met, Quelo, and one of the chefs seemed very friendly.

We ate there twice and really enjoyed the tapas on offer. Service was good too :)

I used to love the old Neptuno but Martin, the owner, needed to retire, so I think that this is the best way forward for the place. At least it is not another block of flats anyway!

Ate at Neptuno last week. Food excellent, service - outstanding. We were a large party and ordered several dishes each all arrived in good order (not all at the same time but close enough not to ne an issue). It was very busy but we spent the whole evening there, waiter with the goatee was fabulous. We went mad and spent a lot on food, beer, wine, coffees etc, but it was all good value. It may not have that authentic feel of some of the very local and old places, but it needs to attract tourists of all tastes and desires in its location - so much competition. Judging by the numbers eating there its doing just that. I have no hesitation i saying give it a go!

Just a point about the comment on martin. He did not need to retire in fact he had no intentions of going. He was forced out by the landlord. (his words not mine)

Tried Neptuno on our recent visit, unfortunately kitchen was closed (it was late afternoon) and was not to reopen until 6:30. Found this a tad strange so went to Llonja for tapas , kitchen there was also closed and not openning until 7:30! At this point the Fussies lost the will to have tapas. I thought tapas was a bit like an all day english breakfast available all day. Seems I was wrong.

tapas

To The Fussies,

I don't know Neptune restaurant but I can tell you that as A Spanish from the North of Spain, tapas can be available all day and this depends on what each resturant wants to do. In fact in the North of Spain "tapeo" is very popular in the evenings. For example, an award-wining tapas bar is Cafe Victor in Bilbao, their tapas are a legend. For me, the best food I have tasted so far has come from "Bodega del Puerto" in Alcudia. But of course, holidays are still on and we may come across a new place. I do miss a restaurant offering alubias -white beans- or lentejas-Spanish thick lentil soup as alternative to the rice dishes.

How lovely to have a Spanish point of view. I fully agree about Bodego des Port in Alcudia - fantastic place. And in the winter they quite often have lentils on their MDD.

I love those soups too - Brisa Marina do a good thick lentil soup and a potatje (meat and pulses) as starters - am sure they would do them as main courses too.

First night tried here wonderful everyone loved it will be back before we go home shouldn't mention that the H word!

The Cumberlands visited last night , the food was ok the service excellent, but as a lover of Spanish comestibles the real Tapas is to be found elsewhere.
Nuff said

Visited the new Neptunos for the 2nd time. Originally I had found the food really fresh, but this time slightly disappointed. The sauce on the patatas bravas seemed as though it had been sitting around a while and was incredibly hot (spicey I like, this was much hotter), the potatoes themselves also appeared to have been around a while. Frito was dry with no red pepper. Service was okay but he was reluctant to let us speak Spanish. Overall I feel the place has lost its appeal and has become a bit 'sanitised'.

We ate there on our first night back in June and well it was OK but nothing special - we didn't go back and quite frankly I can get better tapas back here in the UK
Shame I really miss the old place

Ate here a couple of weeks ago thought it was very ordinary, not a patch on the old Neptuno. All sparkle and no substance

Tried it for lunch one day. Friendly enough service but they had no idea what pa amb oli was. So I showed them a photo in an advertisement for another restuarant but they said they could not do that. Consequently we ended up with cheese and ham baguettes - not very Mallorquin. Used to love the old Neptuno.

Goodness me I did think it was just us, thanks for being honest fellow boarders.
