Rabbit! OMG. We won't be going until the get some veggie options on the menu

LOL:) Sws there was a great veggie option last night which four of us had...vegetable wantons with a red curry sauce. Absolutely de..lish and my daughter said it was the best starter she'd ever had in Stay.

They are beginning to introduce more veggie options but you would only have to ask if there was nothing on the menu.

I must admit only ever tried Stay for a light lunch....and it was a wonderful place to experience but yet to try MDD, I never get round to trying all they wonderful restaurants :D.....aren't we so spoiled for choice! Wonder Ritchie, as you once enjoyed your meal at Stay, why do you personally think it is has deteriorated since your visit last year.....should I really give it a miss on my next visit? What was the main difference this year for you....compared to last year? New chef, staff......must have been a huge disappointment for you this year.

Favie I think the main reason why stay has gone down for me is that they are trying to do to many covers so that has an impact on the service as for the food I did report that I enjoyed last year but that was a light lunch that you could find in any pub in the uk!

Richie sorry we didn't meet in nostalgia we might have been able to have a more fruitful discussion on stay etc, perhaps at a forum meet ? I think what this thread shows is that we all have very different perspectives and expectations in life and the world is ever thus. The most important thing is that PP has enough variety to satisfy all of us !! Enjoy your week chelseadons.

This is an interesting thread.

I have only ever eaten in Stay at lunchtime and have always found the food delicious, service good (if a bit formal) and location obviously fantastic.

It's the little touches that I think makes it special:

- the fact that you each get a fresh-out-of-the-oven bread roll on a plate with chilled butter instead of a basket of slices baguette to share like you get at most other places

- the dry ice cooling system so you can sit out in the midday sun and not fry

- the complimentary chilled chocolate with the bill

It was so nice we went for lunch twice last year and the second time was at the insistence of my fussy-eating 11 year old!

I would love to eat there for dinner but my fussy now 12 year old wouldn't eat anything off the MDD menu unfortunately. So we go elsewhere for dinner to somewhere that has an option of "plain" food (ie food that doesn't come with a sauce, onions, mushrooms, seafood or any number of other things he doesn't like). It is a shame because their lunch menu has plenty of these kind of dishes, shame they don't offer these at night.

Simon I'm almost certain they will serve anything from the lunch menu in the evening for your son if you ask - 3 of us had MDD last year and my teenage son had Spaghetti Bol. They also give him extra bread rolls and the complimentary chocs which was a nice touch. From memory they previously did burger & chips for him while the rest of us enjoyed the fab MDD. Definitely worth asking.

Chelseadons I'm sorry if I came across a little rude last night after paying over 300 euros was not in the best of moods! All I ever ask for in a restaurant is quality food and exceptional service just like I deliver at home.

Simon, do go with your son. Ask to speak to the maitre d' as they can provide a burger, plain chicken, spaghetti. We have often done this for our grandchildren. Just ask...I can assure you they would go out of there way to do something that your son would like.

Ooh, that is really good to know, thanks very much. I will definitely go there for dinner this year!

We like Stay we have been regularly and have probably visited around thirty/forty times. We like the food and the setting although we did comment last time considering how many times we have visited a lot of the staff dont' seem to know us, either that or they just do not make any type of greeting. Some of the restaurants we visit regularly we feel we are greeted like old friends with a kiss and questions to how our family are etc etc but they are always fairly formal at the Stay, this year the owner (well we think he is the owner) did come over to our table and talk to us, but he is not always there and a couple of the waiters whom have served us many times over the years do not show even a hint of recognition. I can see how many find it formal but for us the food and the location outweigh this.

Stay - I love it.

Well I just had to say something. We got back on Friday and will post a full report but we had two dinners and one tapas at Stay .

The reason, well I love in Glasgow and normally its raining or cloudy or a mixture of both .So when I am on holiday I do like to sit in nice surroundings and fell a bit special (not over the top or anything just good service) added to that is the views and the food. I know you can get, sometimes, better food elsewhere but in our opinion when you add up all the factors I still think it is great value for money on the MDD plus the coffee and brandy that you get at the end.

We love it and will be back in September. What I don't understand is the constant carping and comparing of price for the MDD with other cheaper venues when you receive such goof value for money.

Cheers

Scotslizzy

Just wanted to confirm that they do indeed offer the following in the evening for children: burger and fries, chicken breast and fries, and I think a couple of pasta dishes (spag bol and another one with vegetables). They will also do small portions of ice cream, or my children sometimes share one of their fruit salads for dessert. For older children (10+) these meals are especially good because they are basically the same size as the snack/lunch portions - we are starting to find that 'children's' meals can be a bit on the small side at some restaurants, whereas full-size portions are too big. Stay gets it just right IMO.

I was asked by omega1 why i thought stay was overrated my main reason is the quality of food ive been a chef for 27 years in high end restaurants all over europe so i like to think i know what im on about! the setting for stay is great the service slow the food very average the price well over the top! if you want value celler le parra is hard to beat i hope i dont start off any wars!! just a personal opinion.

Hi Richie,

Some interesting comments regards Stay, considering your Chef experience which restaurants would you recomend to eat in within Pollenca.

We are back on the 25th July for 16 nights so we have an awful lot of restaurants to visit again.

Hi Omega we all have our favourites but for us as a family we look forward to celler la parra, tolo's, el Ancla for there paella the best we have had, can torrens for value, and for that special meal maybe el posito if you want me to name more just ask you could always try the big fish bowl called stay were you pay for the view!! Have a great time.

Thanks Debs sounds nice, it's good to hear they are putting on more veggie options, they just need to put some on the menu regularly, it's not rocket surgery, just add some nice dishes with the same care and attention they do non veggie stuff, that's all!

This to me seems to be bit silly! Is it a case if you are No 1 you have to be knocked off the top ??

It is all down to personal opinion We like Stay have never had anything other than good service Love the fact the Set Menu has food other than pile it high chips etc Have eaten in many Michelin Starred Restaurants over the years but have spent at least twice or three times what we pay at Stay and to us the view does matter Paid £10 a prawn somewhere !!!!!!

Tolos for us was our worst service anywhere last year and by the time we got some food we knew we should have walked We will give it another try this year El Posito always seems like a fast food experience to us Nothing wrong with the food but never relaxing Lack of outside space is a disadvantage El Ancla is a nice peaceful experience and good food Will try and find Cella La Parra this year

Do think we have a good choice in PP We try to eat outside if we can Not something we get the opportunity for in this country often ! but we are pro Stay for the atmosphere service view and variety and value of the set Menu

Another plus for Stay is that you can eat outside in the off-season, even on a cool evening. We enjoyed a lovely dinner in late April sitting under their halogen space heaters out on the balcony by the boardwalk (although Mrs F did slip on a wee cardie by the time we got to pudding).

I would have thought that one of the waiters would have picked up the cardie before she slipped on it.

A few years ago we befriended a couple here in PP and ate out every night with them with alternating choice of venue.Every time it was their choice we were obliged to go to a restaurant where they were known by the owner, member of staff, cat in the kitchen or even the parrot in the cage outside. As a result we ate in some awful places! They were just happy to be recognised and it made their night. Our philosophy is to eat where the food is good and not worry whether we were known or not.
Hands up if you agree with me.I'm sure that there won't be many of you!

We only eat in places where we like the food, although being recognised and cheerfully welcomed back is a nice bonus. The flipside is that there are a couple of places in PP where we don't visit as often as we used to and feel ever so slightly guilty when we was bye and still get a cheery wave and smile ...

Only going places where you would be recognised regardless of the quality of the food is completly ridiculous ....
almost as ridiculous as refusing to go somewhere because of the way a waiter pours the wine or because you think the other customers are all too old :p
