Cheap drinks but takes all night to get them!

Juren - We were in PP during early August too and decided to try Circulo Cultural for the first time after reading about it on here. The first time we did OK and were well impressed when two nice glasses of wine and a mineral water came to just 5 euros. So we returned the next night - this time getting served was a nightmare, but we tried again the next night and once again waited forever to get served. In the end we gave up and went back to our usual haunt of Bony's - more expensive but at least the service is superb - you never have to wait even when the place is packed out. The owner of Circulo needs to get at least two more waiting staff before he loses all his customers. We will be giving it a miss from now on.

Hi Charlie

Yes they certainly do need more waiting staff. However, there used to be two young men who waited the tables in the original cultural bar and they seemed to manage fine, even when the bar was busy, though they had more help from inside, behind the bar, I guess. These two were kept very busy but they were on the ball, fast and efficient, and they seemed to have a system -each would look after his own tables, and they kept a tab for each table on top of the bar, which was brought to you when you asked for the bill - and you could be served at the bar if you wished. The two young people waiting the tables there now (or a few weeks ago) seemed to have no training or experience, no direction or management, no system of any kind. l'd say they were like two rabbits caught in the headlights but, actually, they were more like two rabbits who didn't notice the headlights. Poor souls. The owner needs to have these two trained up and get some more staff in.

Hello Juren,

You make some very good points, however, I feel you may get more responses to your posts if your tone was a little less 'moany'.

Cheer up smiler , it's Puerto.

Regards,

Su hermano.

I often wonder if some comments would be made directly to someone face to face or if hiding behind a keyboard gives freedom to be rude?

I considered Juren's post to be very valid and constructive in content and not at all moany. Juren has a right to express points and opinions as does anyone. It might be considered that siren too was expressing an opinion but there is a very fine line between that and being plain rude.
Puerto or anywhere!

Siren, I realise by the last bit of your post "Su hermano" that you and Juren are family and so your comments are taken as just banter, but the other members don't know this and anyway this forum isn't really a place for it. Please can you use the PM facility for personal comments in future, thank you :).

The Baroness and I stopped off a couple of weeks ago at Circulo Cultural for a couple of drinks and a bite. Slow service as we've come to expect - but there again we weren't in a hurry. Had to ask for menus, but they were brought straight away (well as straight away as anything happens there!). The young lad who served us was very pleasant, although he was obviously out on his feet.

A couple of beers and two large glasses of wine washed down a plate of baby squids and another of salted padron peppers. €28 if I remember correctly. Thoroughly enjoyable evening, chatting to couple of spanish lads on the next table with a French Bulldog puppy.

No complaints at all.

Hermano Siren

Moany, Ha! Lol from me. But Sparky is right. Back to topic...

When my brother went to the loo at the cultural he appeared back at our table with hands all soapy and a tad grumpy because there was no water running through the taps in the loo and no paper towels, so he couldn't get the soap off his hands. Now, that was funny. Then the next night he came back from loo even grumpier because the floor leading to the toilet was covered in someone else's 'number two' and staff had just thrown a tea-towel over it.

I do remember the 'old' cultural women's toilet was not a lot better though. There was never any loo paper, but they would throw you a roll if you asked behind the bar.

Unfortunately this bar was refurbished by the owner for the grandsons who clearly have no interest in running this business. It is such a shame.

From what I was told last night, they might have some competition in the square soon. Seemingly the old Cultural is moving into Can Torrens which will be closing in a couple of weeks.

Can Torrens

Is Can Torrens really closing? Anybody got any facts about this? I think a bit of detective work is needed -------Sparky over to you.

The Old Culteral move to Can Torrens was muted about this time last year and was allegedly in the hands of the legal boys.
It would be great to see Manola and his team back on the square.

This rumour was discussed on the forum 2 years ago when the "old" Bar Cultural closed, here is the link http://www.forum.puertopollensa.com/bars-restaurants-pollensa-majorca/7889-bar-cultural.html. I haven't heard anything recently but i guess we will have to wait and see ;).

Juren, Agree with your post 100%. I posted much the same at the start of this thread. I'm out next week for 3 weeks and I am going to give it one more go (Glutton for punishment ).
It's such a shame as this was always my favourite place for a drink before we went off for the main event ( Food ).:)

As I Was in Cultural last night watching the football, I asked Manola,s son if they were moving in to Can Torrens. Definitely by the end of September he said, then as he walked away said "maybe" . So there you have it, clear as mud!:)

LOL!!!, the locals do like to keep their options open don't they??? :D;).

Just a quick update on this post. It is nearly 4 weeks since your post GPM and Can Torrens is still open ;).

Is cultural the place with the childens park opposite?? If so I love it there, it's sooooo mallorcan!

Yes, but the problem is that the service is sooooo slow!!, if you walk up from the square past the playground to the next road up you will find many more Spanish bars with much faster and friendlier service!

Ca'n Torrens & Circulo Cultural

We ate in Ca'n Torrens last week. Excellent Menu del Dia @10 euros per person with three courses, including water, wine, olives, bread and ali oli. The food was delicious and the service was nice and friendly.
I asked if they planned to remain in their current location and as mentioned above, the matter is still in the hands of the 'legal guys'.

On the other side of the square at the Circulo Cultural, we can only agree with comments above about the service being slow - and then at other times it is very good.

There has been a change at the Circulo Cultural.....one of the brothers (Pedro) has now opened and is running another bar in C/Juan XX111 .
