A local English resident has told me that he has heard that they have taken over the estate agency on the corner and are expanding up the Formentor Road. I suppose time will tell whether he is right.

Interesting development….. There is a bit of me that still finds it hard to reconcile the role that the Cafe 1919 owners had in the ice cream hut being removed …… but I am probably getting too old and just need to get over it!! I will watch with interest what happens on the corner!

I was unaware that there was so much animosity towards this cafeteria from long term residents.

The ice cream hut wasn’t there, or I can’t remember it being there, when I arrived.

Could someone put me up to speed about what actually occurred and why 1919 is so disliked ?

The ice cream hut was there for decades and many also remember the owner cycling along the front shouting helados and people came up from the beach to buy ice cream.
The story is told that the owners of 1919 (I think they say this is not accurate) complained to the council and ultimately the ice cream hut had to be removed.
Since this happened I have not used any of the restaurants owned by the 1919 group .

I remember a few years ago the wee inflatables would come in from the yachts and taxis would pull-up on the roundabout .....all for the ice cream!
The queues were something else but well worth the wait! There was always a lovely atmosphere around the cabin, especially in the evening!
I do think it is a huge miss.

I do feel a bit guilty - but I do love their coffee and always visit when I am over. I am not a coffee lover normally - but I do like theirs! Although not as good as Hotel Llenaire.

If so, it will be the largest bar/restaurant on the front.

Well, they will need more staff. You’re lucky to get served at all there, in my experience.

Wow Sharonh, that was a while ago now.

Indeed Mallorcaboy!! We passed it many times last week. It does look very nice, but I couldn’t bring myself to go in. Anyway, we have a fabulous favourite for coffee - Bella Vita on the Formentor Road. An Italian couple run it, with very good coffee, and the most amazing pistachio croissants. The also do lovely focaccia toasties, sandwiches etc.
