Advice for furnishing a house...

Hi there,
We're currently in the process of buying our dream holiday home in Pollensa. Its quite a big house and it will be (partly) furnished but we're going to need alot of stuff-bedding and towels and all the kitchen stuff. And a new bed.
What would be the best way to go about this? I know I could do a big Ikea online order for delivery, but I'm also tempted to ship quite alot of stuff over too.
I have done this before but it was many years ago, and on a different island. We're in the North of England if that makes any difference?

The quality and variety of furniture is much better in Mallorca than in the UK. Deliveries are easy and in our experience always punctual.

Expo in Manacor has fabulous furniture and is an experience just to walk around. Manacor is the centre for furniture shops.

We have bought furniture and shipped it back to the UK because it is so much better.

Plenty of top quality furniture here but also top price. Mid-range stuff is more limited with only Ikea and JYSK to choose from.

Expo is very easy to find. If you come from PP you will go past Petra towards Manacor. just after where the road joins the main road from Palma you come to a roundabout. It is on the right and easy to see. Turn right at the roundabout to access it. They have beautiful furniture. Although you can spend a fortune there, we recently bought some replacement dining chairs there and they were cheaper than anywhere else. They have a branch in Inca but it nowhere near as good as the one in Manacor.

Has anyone found good second hand furniture shops that sell traditional style furniture?

I found an interesting shop in the centre of Santa Maria that has unusual tables and sideboards etc. they also make pieces to your spec and not over priced

Like most others, we did a mixture too - shipped a lot of stuff from the UK, courtesy of Webbs who were excellent - bought a load at Ikea, and are currently on the lookout for a few nice/unusual pieces to finish off the ambience.

We are looking for a large outside table, bed headboards and bedside tables - and possibly a couple of bookcases.

Does anyone know if any of the regular markets have an area for second-hand furniture?

I am looking at moving a small amount of stuff over soon. Webb's have quoted me a minimum £475 plus VAT for 3 sq meters (about 20 moving boxes) door to door from North Hertfordshire

That sounds reasonable...3m2 x what height I'm wondering? Certainly sounds like checking out a quote too, as we have the time to accumulate everything here rather than drive around the Island getting stuff.

We used PSS Removals who subcontracted Whites Removals.

I thoroughly recommend Whites. They packed everything up and loaded the boxes into the crates within their lorry. Lorry was a double decker size and had about 4 or 5 tall crates positioned. I took a couple of photos, the process was new to me, and looked impressive! Once crates are sealed, that's it, your contents are not touched again until at unload. Whites unloaded and I unpacked at leisure. They visit Pollenca often and were both grateful that they collected the unwanted boxes for re-use at their Palma depot.

I also moved from Hertfordshire, Summer this year, 950 cubic feet priced at £3700 excl. insurance, which we didn't bother with. All good!

Worth noting though, PSS quoted on inspection, a volume of 830 cubic feet. Additional volume charged on a pro rata basis.
