Has anyone else heard the rumour that the owner of Bar Cultural has decided to retire?
The rumour has it that the Bar has been sold, and that it will close shortly and re-open under the new ownership.

The people who told me were pretty certain it was going to happen!
If it's true, this will definitely be the end of an era!

Anybody know anything????

Cheers!

Know the acting agent & can confirm the sale. That is all I can squeeze out of him in one call, I will keep you posted

Please, please don't let it be turned into an "Irish theme bar" or similar !!!

First the Neptuno and now this place. How much more can a body take..
Still looking on the bright side it may get turned into a Tex Mex.:eek:

Yes i too have heard this and while i did not use the bar very much i think it would be a shame if it changed too much. However that said, nothing is forever and sometimes change is a good thing, so we will have to wait and see what happens. I do wish the owner a very long and happy retirement, the poor man has struggled since his wife died and i know he has been worried that his business took a downturn after the smoking ban came in.

The family only lease the Bar and the owners want to upgrade it. They also own all of the other buildings on that side. The daughter Tina will move to the bar along from the post office called Ramon, the lease of which is in her family. There is a possibility that in one years time they will return to the square on a different site. They pay very high rents and are tired of working so hard for other people!!. I wish Tina well in her new venture and I am sure Manolo will be about helping her.

I have been told by a regular customer that the bar will close at the end of September and Tina has already started to get Ramons ready to open.

Prime spot for Cappuccuni PP 2 - they took over a place similar to The Cultural in Pto Andratx a few years and made it lovely but not OTT.....
Manolo certainly deserves a long happy retirement and I wish him all the best. I saw that Bar Ramons was being cleaned the other day but I did not realise who had taken it over so good luck to Tina also, it makes sense something smaller and no rent.
I hope the Cultural does not stay closed for long - it will leave a big gap in the square.

Sadly closing tomorrow, rumours are the landlords wanted to more than double the rent

That is bad news.Over the last 7 years it has become our bar of choice. We always felt like we were 'abroad' when sitting outside.
I'm not sure where we'll go now,but I know it wont be the one in the square that looks like it could be in Magaluf.

I have just spoken to the same guy and he apologised to me because he got it wrong. As Pollensaparadise reported the bar will close tomorrow.
I just hope that whatever happens, it will be remain a place where the local people can go to enjoy reasonably priced drinks and snacks. If not the square will die in the winter :(:(.

Thats is sad, we were hoping to go while away, yes it should stay a bar but if its true the rent is doubling I expect it will be hard to make a bar work, I fear it will become a restaurant not necessarily open during the winter!!!

First Neptuno and now Cultural hope PP doesn't lose it's charm. We certainly do not need any more restaurants on the Square IMO

You know which one I'm talking about.By the way, that's just me being a bit of a snob.
I'm sure lots of people enjoy that bar but I much prefer Bar Cultural, that's all.
What with JK's closing -always my choice for any sport that I have to watch - and now Bar Cultural,my evenings may have to have a bit of a revamp.

On the DOWN side: :(

It will be a great loss to the locals who could sit and chat and play dominoes, they were allowed to sit and use it as a meeting place without the pressure of 'buying a drink or vacate the table' that you will find elsewhere.

Esra (English Speaking Residents Association) also used to put on shows on the stage at the back. Where will they go now?

Tourists will lose a bar on the square where the prices were more 'realistic', it was a good place to sit outside with the locals and their children.

The loss of a traditional local business to a more modern sterile one like any other tourist resort.

On the UP side: :D

The building will be refurbished. Improving the look of the square.

The toilets will be upgraded, they were very old and difficult to maintain, us blokes were not so bothered but my better half would rather burst!!

Better use of space could provide more than one business on the site.

So....Good luck to those leaving and starting anew, Enjoy your retirement Manalo, Thank You. And Tina maybe see you in your new venture.

Good Luck to those who will try to make a living despite the ridiculous rent spiral that threatens all LOCAL businesses leaving only the bigger chains to take over.

Lets hope it fits in to the family feel that we wish to preserve.

All is not lost guys, my neighbour has just told me that Bar Cultural will be reborn at a later date in what is now Can Torrens, so as Lollipop reported they will be moving back into the square but it may be sooner than she thought. My neighbour is a very happy man tonight.:D

P.S. I am sorry for all you Can Torrens fans.

That is good news, can you remind us which one that is and where?
