Car hire and credi card

We have booked a car to pick up at Palma Airport and on the terms and conditions it states that i have to leave an imprint of my credit card when picking up the vehicle?Is this a normal practice as i have booked cars before and never been asked to leave details like that before.

Yep, always been common practice with most car hire firms. Their protection against damage, theft, parking tickets etc. Never had any problems with it so far!

Absolutely normal and usual worldwide.

Credit card usually has to be in the name of one of the named drivers. A few years back, a non-driving, but card-holding, relative went on holiday with a driving, but not card owning, friend. They were refused the rental which mucked up the touring holiday for two days till they managed to sort things out.

Yes, and some companies will actually charge the excesses there and then against your card and refund on return.

Yes, that happened on our recent trip 350 euro debited from card on pic up. It was refunded within a few days of returning the car. That was with Centuro.

I paid 300 euro and had the same refunded. However the difference in exchange rates used by my bank meant it cost me £12. Still arguing that one with them.
