When we first came for lunch here, back in 2008. Es Moli was very much a workmens’ caff – a Mallorcan greasy spoon if you will. We queued for it to open at 1pm and, by five past, it was packed. Not a table to be had. We shared ours with a couple of decorators in the paint splattered overalls. Perhaps the local custom has gone elsewhere , or decorators now bring a butty from home for their lunch, but it’s much quieter and most customers were tourists, so they’ve had to chalk up the day’s menu in English as well as Castilain. The format is still pretty much the same though – three courses, including bread, olives, wine & water, for €12.

There was a frito to start which was as good as you’d hope. Nicely livery, with fried potato, onions and peppers. I prefer more fennel though. At this sort of price, it was no surprise that “crab salad” actually wasn’t. This was shredded “crab sticks”, mixed with mayo, with a handful of leaves on the side. A perfectly fine starter.

Stuffed aubergine was excellent – a really tasty meat filling. Fried potatoes on the side. Fried spuds, mixed with a few green beans, also accompanied a roast chick leg.

There’s a choice from three offerings at starter and main course. A slightly wider choice for dessert which included a couple of cakes but we both went with perfectly ripe watermelon. A nice light ending to a meal that would set you up for an afternoon’s painting and decorating or, in our case, lazing round the pool.
