My son and his girlfriend will be visiting PP for the first time in August.

Is there any crime they should be aware of - pick-pockets, muggers, etc

He used to come on holiday to PP with us several years ago and there were no problems then but looking at the news, particularly in mainland Spain, it seems crime is spreading to most places nowadays.

Steve :(

PP is a lovely place and we have never experienced any problems in20 years.

You need to be as vigilant as you would be anywhere. I don't think that there is anywhere that you can be completely relaxed.

The only time you really need to keep an eye on bags and wallets is on market day, but to be honest that would be the same in any town. Markets are very busy places and attract some people who may like to take advantage of busy crowds, when you might be more interested in the stalls than your bag.

The only incident we ever had was many years ago when my grandad had a wallet stolen in Sineu on market day.

You just need to be aware but don't worry too much. Just be sensible but more importantly, enjoy your holiday!

There seems to be some daylight robbery going on in a certain part of the pinewalk!!!! if you know what i mean! my little joke.

Re: crime

The only time we had a problem was up at Formentor Beach when we had a bum bag stolen.

Just be careful going round the shops which begin at the roundabout and point towards Alcudia, we've been dipped twice (in the last 15 yrs) the most recent being last year. Luckily, they only used the credit card for 60 euros. I would add the purchases were made in Inca and Palma, so highly unlikey it was anybody local.

My advice to anyone who thinks they may have mislaid their credit card, don't mess about, cancel it immediately, thieves could run amok before you actually realise whats happened.

Totally agree - the cards when they are stolen seem to be used very very quickly so it is very important that cards are cancelled as soon as you realize they are missing. Most properties offer safes and they are so worthwhile - a few pounds to keep your items safe rather than time and hassle in reporting lost items and then cost and time in trying to replace them is not worth the saving of the cost of the safe!
There are naturally very expereinced pickpockets working all over the Island (should read world!) so anyone should be very careful especially in the large supermarkets (syp at Pollensa has a particular problem I understand) bus stops, markets and view points across the island when you have a car.
Isolated cases but they are happening and sometimes of course we make it so easy for the b . . .. `s!! Have a great holiday.
