Fabulous white wine

While eating at Cal Patro in Cala San Vicente we sampled a fabulous Penedes white wine which was Aikarai which was 100% Muscat grape. It was very light (11%) delicate and floral. Perfect for a hot day. It is probably the best Spanish white we have had in the 11 years we have been here.

We liked it so much that we contacted the vineyard and their local supplier delivered us a case the next day. Unfortunately it is not available in shops. A case sounds a lot, but I can guarantee that it won't last long! A case (12) was €84

It is dry, but nicely so - similar to a sauvignon blanc with with a delicate taste of lychee and with a floral nose. It is light 11.5% and slips down easily in this hot weather.

We searched for it on the internet and found the vineyard Giró Ribot |. If you look at their website you will see that this wine has won a huge amount of awards including 7 Gold Medals.

There is a section to buy on line. but as we were unsure of delivery time I emailed them and the next day their Mallorca distributor contacted me.

He delivered it to our house in Alcanada the same morning with no delivery charge.

Regrettably they do not list a distributor for the UK

The Alkarai wine is now sold at Alcampo at €3.89 a bottle.

It is still our favourite white wine

I think we will ask if we can keep the wine lists to look at a bit longer as the first thing we order is the wine and then they disappear !

Not sure about the Port, but we discovered it at C'al Patro in Cala San Vincente. They still have it.

What I didn't say was that we bought a case of this from the importer last month at a price of €7 a bottle, only to find it later at Alcampo at €3.89!

Still good though.
