Fletchers

Just returned from a week in the port and only saw Fletchers open on two occasions, one being Wednesday night when the football was on. It was very busy but I think most people were in the bar and not eating!!! The other night we saw it open, we had already eaten! Intended to go for a meal on Thursday night and found it closed, and on Friday there was a notice up saying it would open at 7.30pm by which time we were on our way to the airport. All in all, not a good way to run a business. Unfortunately we did not manage to have a meal there all week. Does anyone know why the opening hours are so erratic?:(

We had the same problem the other week - once we got there, Maureens sister was putting up a 'closed' sign due to a family party. Then another time we went - after 7pm - there was a group of people waiting outside so we decided that if it was still locked up with no sign of life - then it would be a long wait for a meal!! When we did find it open - the food and service is excellent - but I agree its not very professional and they will lose a lot of business this way.:(

No offence, but if you have a business to run then a family party should not be reason to close the restaurant. Have the party on the day the restaurant is closed anyway, I think it's perhaps a Monday. We are the people who are providing an income for all restaurant owners and the least that they can do is to be open when they say they will be. I thought that the food served in Fletchers was excellent value for money, but I totally agree that if they want to be another "failure" then they are certainly going about it the correct way. I just hope that either Maureen or Kenny do read the comments on this forum and they take note of what is being said as it would be a pity for them to fail because of their attitude to the business. They have to realise that running a business is a lot more demanding than a casual job:(

If they are finding it a struggle they could always change their opening hours, that way people would know what to expect:)

Come on Maureen & Kenny.....open your bistro more regularly.

No one goes into business to fail and I'm sure there is a reason why they had to close without notice. Who knows what the family matter was. No one said or was a party. It was suggested that it was an occasion which can mean anything! I think it is unwise to make assumptions without knowing the true facts and I really do not feel that business lessons via this forum is the way forward or productive!!!

Sorry, my reading of this was 'a family party'

Family party is a description for anything! Perhaps they were trying to keep a personal matter personal. Without knowing true facts we should be careful of opinions as damage can be made to busineses already having a bad time.

Kym, the last thing I want to do is to cause damage to either Maureen or Kenny as I have had nothing but praise for them (refer to my previous posts) but when you turn up at the bistro expecting it to be open and find that it is closed (as happened to us a couple of times last week) with no notice giving a reason then you begin to wonder just exactly what is happening. My wish is that either Maureen or Kenny take note of the comments on this forum regarding this and rethink opening times/days and try to stick to those. It would be such a pity if they did not succeed but it is only them who can make that happen. The customers are there, but if the bistro is not open then people will go elsewhere....that's to be expected!! I do think that 'family party' was probably just that tho'....a family party;)

Sadly a customer not through your door is a customer lost - they walk around the corner, find somewhere else..like it and go back.

I am in the customer service sector (sounds good;)) and I will move heaven and earth to keep my place open because I know that frustrated customers are lost customers - I can't always do it but working on my 6 day week if i'm not open 306 days a year I am failing my customers:eek:

I don't expect a tourist establishment to open the days that we have to ...but you get my drift?

an not so obvious gem 30 yards from beach

Its a great pity that Fletchers is not too obvious from the prom on the main beach, but, if you look up the short street for the 'T' sign, then you've found it!. Don't miss it. Kenny does a fabulous lunch menu, everything from prawn dishes to scotch pies(yes he makes them in the kitchen and they are brilliant!)The pub side has a great atmosphere and although i don't normally frequent British pub/restaurants when i am abroad, i make Fletchers an exception. Maureen always gives you a warm welcome, she and Kenny are great hosts, nothing is too much.I,ve come to look on them as friends and wish that more people would get to sample kenny's food. Their prices are very reasonable and if I want to watch a match, i go straight there as my wife and I can both enjoy a lunch, a drink and watch the footy in a pleasant atmosphere.
Try it, you won't be disappointed.

:):):):):

But not if it´s closed!:(

as it has been in the last few days!

remember it as Vistamar, ie Paco and Marias!

It was Maureen herself who told us it was a family birthday party - some family had come over from Scotland and they had one 'do' at the bistro the day before and then decided to have another at home! I forgot to mention that there was a 'closed' sign on another time that we tried.

I was aware that family were over from Scotland as I did notice her nephew (I think) outside on the one evening that we did see it open (we had already eaten)

GG That's exactly what we did....went round the corner, went in to G & G and went back a second time, and got excellent food and service.

Fletchers is still (I hope) very good food and very good value for money!!!

Ragdollabbi. If this is you not wanting to cause damage to their business then I would hate to see what you would write if you didn't like a place. In one breath you praise and say they work hard and the next you have a go at them saying they don't work enough. If you like a place then don't bring up the negatives. Make your mind up.

My god why has this become such an issue?

This is a bar not a bank.

This is Spain. Lots of bars have slightly erratic opening hours.

Please remember there are only two of them working there. If one of them is ill they cannot open. If they have had a power/water cut (which happens often), they cannot open. If they have had a late night the night before, perhaps they might be a little late opening the next day.

Kenny & Maureen work extremely hard and do not deserve this criticism.

I agree! I think it is very easy for people to hide behind strange names which make them anonomous and then dish the dirt or put the boot in. Why try to destroy someones business and reputation? If something upsets then contact the relevant people in private don't try to be clevour and attempt to score points in public. It isn't necessary as already said it is Mallorca and also the end of the season when flexibility comes to mind.

I am going to respond here because this is getting out of hand. If you look back in this thread there has been a lot of very good comments about this business and I'm sure that they will have given this restaurant a lot of good, positive publicity. Unfortunately I am aware from both this forum & elsewhere that there have been several occassions over the last few months when the place has been closed during periods that they had stated that they were open which is unfortunate as it does put potential customers off.

Reading through this thread no-one is hiding "behind strange names which make them anonomous and then dish the dirt or put the boot in" or "attempting to destroy anyone's reputation." They are just pointing out that it does not help a business if they are often closed during advertised 'opening times'.

I have been watching this thread since it started, i do not know about Maureen and Kenny's personal circumstances but i will say there are many other places that run with only 2 people and there is one very well known bar that is run and manned by just the owner, admittedly he does not do food but these places are much more dependable.
We have had very few power/water cuts this summer and yes if they have had a late night before it is fine to be a little late opening but we are talking about not opening at all.
Their customers surely have a right to feel aggrieved if they make an effort to go there only to find the doors closed without notice.

Personally, If I were to go somewhere and it were closed when it should be open - whatever the business - I probably wouldn't return.

Business is especially tough out there and good service, good prices and good attitude are a must for any business to succeed. Business is not a game and customers are the business stock. Without the customers there will be no business and so they should be treasured and made to feel important. How many times have we read on here that such and such is not doing too well or so and so is closing? No business can afford to have a laid back attitude in this climate and in my mind it is disrespectful to customers to just not open unless of course there was a really good reason. If this were the case it would be fair to expect a reason and apology to be placed on the door.
This is my own personal opinion and is general and not directed to Fletchers or anyone else.

Thank you Pollensa, Sparky & Eleanor for the comments made which are my feelings exactly.

Russets, I think that if you look back at my posts that I was one of the first people who made very positive comments about Fletchers, on numerous occasions and I would have been delighted to have returned last week and made many more positive remarks, but unfortunately we were not able to find Fletchers open apart from the one time we passed when we had already eaten and the night the football was on. We did go elsewhere on these evenings and yes, we did return to G & G as we thought the service and quality of food were very good but everyone has the right to choose where and when they eat. Trust me on this one, if Fletchers had been open on any of the nights we were in the vicinity, we would have eaten there with no hesitation. My feelings still stand with regard to the fact that in this economic climate, no business, be it restaurant or otherwise can afford to have a laid back attitude to their business (as Eleanor says) and, even if there are only 2 people working in Fletchers, and one perhaps is not able to be there, for whatever reason, then I feel that even the bar could be open and at least someone is on the premises to explain the reasons for not serving food. I appreciate that it may be difficult, but then, so is life!!!!

My mind is made up about Fletchers......I want to see it open, when it should be and serving the delicious food that I know it can do!!!! Not everyone perhaps, may think like this though, as some people may find it closed and never try again.

Kym, if the comment about strange names and anonymity is directed at me , then I think that every person here on the forum is guilty one way or another as most users do not use their own name!!!
