Insurance for UK plate car

Hi All
We are planning to have our UK car for 6 months and then sell it, we had insurance with Tesco all arranged until we said we were working and they promptly cancelled our policy there and then! So now we have to find insurance for the car, proving tricky. Anyone have any experience? Thanks in advance.
