The date of the registration is the date on the cars papers, which is exactly my point.

No, I am talking about the date stamped on your "ficha técnica" every time you take your car in for testing.
Say you fail the test and need to take it back in 3 weeks time and it passes, the valid date is the date they stamp "pass" on this piece of paper and the clock starts running from then.

Not so,
In our case:-
Date of last test 5th March
Date of next ITV from reminder and in cars inspeccion tecnica papers 17 April
Date of first registration 17th April (permiso de circulacion)
Which was the point I was trying to make near the start of this thread

Ok no probs, be it as you say.
In my fichas técnicas there are two dates. One being the date when they were tested and another below when the next test is due, which is exactly two years later. These have no relationship with the purchase date as I took one off the road for several months and then tested it nine months later.
In 2017 this is going to change. We will be given a months leeway as they realise that it is virtually impossible to book a test for the date it expires.
I have just re read your post. Maybe the reason is because you tested BEFORE it was due and not after. If it had been AFTER your next test would have been two years after that date.

Just been to Inca to pass the ITV

It expired on the 14/04! Are you allowed to drive without one, with our MOT you are not, this is useful info for future use for me.

Yes, but as I said in a previous post, the guardia won´t say anything if you show them the booking for the next test, as they realise that it is very difficult to get one for the day it expires.
I also mentioned that as from next year, 2017, drivers will have 30 days grace after the expiry date to get the vehicle tested.
Really, the problem doesn´t lie with the authorities but with the insurance companies. If you are involved in an accident, the company will always reimburse the other party, but could, if they felt like it, sue you for this money if they considered that the accident was caused due to the vehicle being in a bad state of repair, something the ITV would, presumably, have spotted first and would have obliged the owner of the vehicle to put right.
In other words, no ITV, no insurance coverage (in theory) .
