Hi All

Can anyone recommend traditional food..I am interested in what Frito is?

Many thanks

Frito tends to be a bit of everything (veg, potatoes, meat) diced and fried in a pan - seem to remember my grandma having it and it had liver in it! Instantly put me off!

My husband always has the seafood version and he says that each restaurant has it's own version - suppose it is a bit like paella really. There was one original recipe and each restaurant adapts it according to their own personal taste and what ingredients they have in.
He really enjoys it at C'an Ferrar and I think - Maxims.

Do try Tumbet a super dish very filling lots of lovely vegetables & aubergines best in town El Postio

There are two main varieties of Frito (fried); Frito Mallorquin with diced potatoes, veg and liver and Frito Marinero where seafood (usally baby squid amongst other things) replaces the liver. Apparently very tasty if you like that kind of thing!

Have to agree with mark and snowy lomo con col and tumbet a must

Many thanks for all your suggestions...can't wait to try them !

I love the little peppers fried in garlic and olive oil (can't remember what its called.) Every so often you get a hot one - like Russian Roulette with vegetables!

'They're called pimientos fritos or pimientos verdes. I love them too, although the last few times I've tried I've been disappointed cos there were no hot ones! :eek

Also known as Pimientos Padron. We loves these too - if you get a really hot one, you are supposed to eat some dry bread to help with the heat!

Bread? :eek I usually use as an excuse to drink more Rosado :lol

Milk! You should drink milk to put out the fire, although, how many eateries could offer you a pint of semi-skimmed ;)

Hi, I had a starter once and it was red peppers cut in half with prawns in and some kind of sauce with cheese melted on top. They were so tasty but I cant remember where I had them (it wasnt in the square on along the front) it was in a side street with a bar running along the right hand side, and I cant remember what they were called (too much wine)! I know its a long shot but if any PP regulars have had them and know what they are called or how to make them I will be eternally thankfull. I also had them in Lanzarote.

Thanks

Sally

Could it be El Posito? They have a bar on the right hand side as you enter the restaurant.

Plus, they have a starter of red peppers stuffed with seafood on their menu...

Hope this helps!

Jane:D

YES! It was El posito, thankyou, just have to work out whats in them and how to make them. Cant get out to PP this year (my sons having an op) dont think I can wait till next year for them, my mouth waters just thinking of them!

Thanks again

Sally

mallorca food

Hi Sally

The pepper and seafood starter is just as mouthwatering as you remember - I had it at El Posito in May this year. I've just been looking on the Eating Out section of this forum at the El Posito menu to find out exactly what they call them but the menu is only in English and surprise, surprise it says 'small peppers stuffed with seafood'. Not to worry they'll taste all the sweeter for the wait

Re: mallorca food

As lovers of Pimientos and El Posito, my missus and me took some photos of the menu, I can confirm they call them ''Pimientos Des Piquillo Rellenos De Marisco!''

Sad, I know!:lol

Thanks for the replies especially the Spanish name Mark, googled it and about a million hits came up so am sorting through to find the recipe! In the mean time I have emailed El Posito to see if they would be kind enough to send me the recipe. If i manage to recreate it I will post the recipe for others to follow.

Sally

Now we've got onto El Posito, stand by for a post from Smiddy.:lol
At the end of last season (football), Tony from El Posito bet me that Theirry Henry would move to Barcelona. If he didn't he would give me a free meal. Well, he didn't move last season, so I should gone in to claim it. Never got round to it. Given the current news I'm just going to have imagine what that meal would have been like:(

good to hear from you mallorca boy
yes Tony's prediction did come true
