Menu Del Dia

I've already said a thing or two about the menu del dia but I would be interested to find what people think are the best value (Including type of food, setting, etc).
Just a quick reprise of my experience this last few days
Balaixa today. Mussles(fantastic), Chicken Chasseur(Very nice indeed) Poached Necterines(Very good)
Half bottle of wine, Water.15 Euros
Great value, lovely food, well cooked and presented, great setting. Arrived at 1.00.pm to eat, spent the rest of the day at the pool. Left at about 5.00pm
Trencadora
Vegetables in Puff pastry(very good) Tagliatelli with Salmon(Smoked salmon which was a bit salty for me) Banana Split(I didn't have this, but wifey said it was very good.)
Half a bottle of wine, Water. 11.50 Euros.
Nice setting, food slightly disapointing, but very reasonably priced.

Hello Mallorcaboy!

I had the Menu del Dia at Ca'n Cuarassa back in May (dinner menu) and it was delicious. The price was 25.95 euros for three courses and it said it included wine but as hubby went for the normal a la carte menu we just ordered a bottle of wine of our choice.

I definitely think I had the better meal and only ordered it because two of the dishes looked particularly tempting (duck breast ravioli and chicken). The tiramisu for dessert was lovely too.

We had a lovely evening at the restaurant (see separate post) and I can heartily recommend!!

Looking forward to trying out more next month!

When people mention menu de dia I normally think of those that are around 6-7 euros such as El Posito, Bodega d'es Port in Alcudia. Cap de Canto is pretty good too. Also Centric. There are also several in & around Pollensa town.

Someone told me ( they really like value, if you know what I mean !!!!) that the best value in the Port was the microbrewery ( ???) opposite the wasteland in Roger de Flor. Apparently 6 Euros including drinks and only printed in spanish as they only want to attract the locals .

Any info anybody?

Hi BonysLad !

It's a rotten job going round these restaurants but someone's got to do it!

Would that be the place on a corner which was fitted out late 2003 ? All tiled pretty flash inside. And facing the wasteground and the mountains.

Somebody should go and try it.

On the corner diametrically opposite there is also Juniors' Bar I think and it is very much a locals place, noisy and so on and doing a Menu. And beside it another more Anglified place doing a Menu but again Anglified.

Lots of people never venture up the back of the town but if your appt is there you get to know.

On the street facing on to the by-pass there is yet another of these local type bar/restaurants doing a Menu. These are posted but only in Spanish or even Mallorquin.

Have to say have not tried any but maybe we have an adventurer in our midst!

In the chat room last night you got a lot of compliments for your reviews. You should come in sometime.

Hiya Portofan,

That's the place, as you say only opened a couple of years ago but definitely with the tiled interor. Never been in but probably worth a try.

thanks for your compliments re reviews , will probably add some more this week on the more frequented places.

Thinking of seeking the most disgusting eating experience award. Do you remember the Faulty Towers episode when Basil tried the gourmet evening?

If you remember he referred to some irkesome clients by saying " How about a trough of baked beans and chips and I could toss in a couple of dead dogs !!!".

This year , you know what is like when you are there for a while,being a bit homesick BonyLadette said one night " I could murder a curry" so we went round late one evening to that new indian ( Taj Mahal??) by TOTS.

Would you believe it, they have obviously done a deal with Montenegro's to supply chips because they were rushing over with bowls of chips to add to some peoples curries !!!!

Any other nominations for the dead dogs in a trough
award?

Sorry Robjay, but you have to have a break sometime.
Went to Montenegro for their's today and really wasn't bad.
Choice of Tuna salad, Mussles, veg soup or Gazpacho, then Spainsh Omlette or Grilled Sole.Then pudding, wine, bread and olives. 8 Euros. Not too bad at the lower end of the list. Quite light, and certainly good value. We also had coffee, and for three people it came to 28 euros

Get yourself up to Cerveceria La Bodeguita.
Corner of Roger de Flor and Llevant opposite the waste ground car park.

Gorra practise your Spanish by the way or maybe Mallorquina.

Menus outside in Spanish. No concessions.
Inside you can sit in the Zona de Fumadors at the window or around the old wine barrels topped by glass.

Lovely tile display behind the bar of Sevilla and atmospheric. Plenty black and white photos of a bearded guy and National G eographic Channel to watch if you like or the Spanish Simpsons!:eek

Now you can sit inside or out in the road.
No footpath nonsense here!

Very nice waitress no English spoken and be like Roberto thee Builder and 'ave your Hierbas to feenish up si?

So go for it Bonyslad and tell us about it!

And see if there are two elderly English gents and a lady there.

And PS to Robjay!!!

There is an outdoor sports shop next door to interest you Roberto!!:rollin

we have had a beer in here as it is near our apartment
as we have a particular affection for Seville
but never eaten

Just as a little postscript to my post on La Bodeguita.

And wondering if Bonyslad dipped his toe?

We knew what we were ordering for lunch and were very pleased with it, the Potaje de Garbanzos and the Berenjenas Rellenos being very tasty. But do all our readers??

Also I'd mention that many of the items on the menu come as Tapas, as 1/2 Racion and as Racion.

So who is the Braveheart to try off the full menu and choose your own wine to accompany?:eek

Sorry I missed your call to arms !!!!!!

Unfortunately wasn't around the Port much at lunchtime on this visit but will definitely give it a whirl next time I'm there ( probably for San Antonio). Bit of luck there will be a bonfire outside so look forward to reviewing it then.
