My Thoughts

No Bella, just expressing my opinion. We have visited PP every year for the past eight, enjoyed most but lately the place has taken a nose dive for us compared to what it was in 2002. Many other PP fans will have similar good memories from times further back. I spoke only for myself and wish every future visitor new or old, a wonderful holiday. It just is not for us in the forseeable future.

Jimbo when you say PP has taken a nose dive what exactly do you mean?We've been coming for twenty years and I don't think things have really changed that much at all. I'm sitting writing this in Los Zarzales with a cold beer on a beautiful afternoon, after going to the market in Pollensa this morning.

The Port is busy and thriving and I for one cant think of anywhere I'd rather be

Celebrated my daughter´s birthday (18th) at Stay and exam passes (off to Uni eek!) at Cán Curassa. I´ve managed to wangle more and more time out here and just love every moment. My wife said "you know I don´t think I´ll never tire of this view" last night, sitting with glass of vino as usual..I can only but agree.

There are things that do change, but since we don´t spend much time in touristy haunts, maybe we don´t see the affect as much.

All I´ll say is that you can bet that most other resorts are changing faster than PP with the economic downturn.

I´ve loved this 3 week stint and can´t wait until my next sojurn in October!

Hi Folks, Well here's my thoughts for what they are worth. No-one can be more critical than me about pp. You only have to refer to my post a year ago, but when the chips are down it's no contest. I must have looked out over that beautiful cobalt blue bay more times than i can remember, but every time i come back it still grabs me in the pit of my stomach. The montains are always different depending on the time of day and the light falling on them.Take the mountains that surround the port. Depending on the time of year the depth of colour as the sun start's to set go from red to gold to brown, absolutely breath taking. Sorry for rambling on but for me it's paradise and yes as others have said it's like coming home. If when i'm no longer around you happen to see a bit of sand that's a different colour to the rest, don't worry it will just be my ashes. Yes folks that's how much i love the place. Peace my friends and long may you contiue to enjoy her as much as i do.

I wasn't sure whether to reply or not as some people accuse some of us of wearing blinkers or being biased if we try to show the good points of PP, but as this thread is called My thoughts, Debz I think you are wrong to question Jimbos reasons, it his opinion which he is entitled too. But for what its worth I totally agree with what you say, where else would you rather go, I can imagine how good it feels to be where you are doing what you are doing. I have been going for around 16 years now and yes there have been changes, bars come and go, restaurants come and go, people come and go and yes Elvis may have been to prominent this year, but one thing is for sure, the views were as good as ever, the sea was as blue as ever, the welcome was as good as ever if not better, and the people who live and now live in PP are some of the nicest people you could meet anywhere.

Yes PP is a top price resort and yes I love Cuba and two weeks in Cuba is cheaper than two weeks in PP, but my week each year in PP will not be replaced so BL remember I will be back to my second home.

So you think this lovely bay has had it's day ??? So what do you come here for ??? Of course you can find shed loads of places that are better value but don't confuse price for value .

There ain't a nicer resort in the Med , IMO , and despite all our moans about litter, dog mess, graffiti etc it still offers so much for so many holidaymakers .

Watched an interesting interview with the CEO of Thomson's Holiday's the other day ( the guy travels everywhere with his job ). They asked him where he holidayed and he was a bit reticent in answering . " I actually take my family every year to Mallorca to PP . We go to a restaurant called Stay on our first night and when I sit there overlooking the bay , I know I have started my holiday "

BL I seldom confuse price with value, but I do take exception to paying 15 euros for two fresh orange drinks in Jokers of all places. The bay as you say is lovely so are a lot of other places and we intend exploring them. The clue is in the title "My Thoughts".

Save the Brut for Snowy.

I have just sat and read through all the posts on this thread. Then spent half an hour thinking about why I dont risk my 2 precious weeks a year trying out all the other wonders the world has to offer. The answer is I dont know why I dont other than that I know I will completely relax and so will my family. Its still as magical as it was when I was 5 years old. At the point I dont feel like that anymore I will try the other wonders but for me and my family this is my corner of paradise.

The title of this post is " My Thoughts" - an individual perspective of PP. Not one to argue whether it is good or bad, improved or deteriorated. One cannot critisise a person for their thoughts - everybody has a different perspective.

For me I do miss the feeling of a small fishing community, one comming to terms with the sudden onsluaght of mass tourism. The port has grown out of all proportion to one I knew 40 years ago but I still love it even though it has no longer, for me, got the intimate feel I remember.

The bay is one of the most beautiful, awe inspiring, relaxing vistas that the med, if not the world, has to offer.

Could do better with the right understanding but could be a hell of a lot worse.

Council - realise what you have got and make it the best!

Like i said these are my thoughts and im sure at some point in the future we will return. We did try Portugal and then the next year we had to do PP again.

Like i said move away from the pinewalk IMO the town has got its problems and yes just like other towns etc.

Im sure at some point i wll be back

I can understand Jimbo's desire to explore new places and try to find somewhere "better" out there in the big wide world. We have been going to PP for over 20 years staying in numerous hotels & apartments, sometimes only getting there once a year, sometimes twice a year and sometimes if we were lucky and careful with our pennies three times a year. We are fortunate to go to other places also and try different countries and islands but the one place we do feel "at home" is PP. We were there in may and we return again on saturday and from the moment we get out of the airport it is total relaxation, looking at the Tramuntanas as you drive across the island, seeing the first glimpse of the bay, seeing what changes taken place since we were last there. At 1.00pm on saturday (weather permitting) we will be sat outside Bahia on the pine walk with a cold beer deciding what to have for lunch, looking out across the bay thinking we are home. Yes we go to other places and enjoy them, some more than others but nothing compares to the feeling of returning to PP. Enjoy yourself Jimbo where ever you go but I think you will be back one day, PP is in your blood, you won't be able to resist the pull of PP.

Interesting post.

We bought a property in PP last summer after toying between PP and Cala D'or.
I agree that Cala D'or is much cleaner with less graffiti and dog mess. There appears to have been a vast increase in graffiti in PP recently and it is something I cannot stand personally.

I've noticed the graffiti "tag" "SLV Crew" about quite a bit. And one that says "SLV is back". Back from where? Is he some sort of criminal who's been locked up does anyone know?

Anyway, getting back on subject we decided to buy in PP because overall we believe it's a nicer place and an all year round one at that. The central part of Cala D'or is also rather naff I think with people trying to get you into their bars/restaurants etc. which I personally hate.

As James says, what's happening with the council enhancing PP's appearance?

I returned from a weeks stay on Monday and to put things right, i.e. clearing litter, dog mess and graffiti and repairing the odd promenade light etc. would be so cheap and quick but the benefits instantaneous.

Just my thoughts....

15 euro oranges must have been a mistake i have had their lovelly fresh orange many times in past few years and it is about 3euros for a large glass.
It is a pity this wasnt queried at the time as i am sure the mistake could have been put right as the guys in joker are long established and just want to provide good value as they have for years
