Top Tories splash out half a million euros on Pollensa holiday.
By Humphrey Carter
A stay at the famous 40 million euro La Fortaleza estate in Puerto Pollensa was one of the most sought after items at a fund raising auction for the Conservative Party in London on Monday night. The sale was held at the glittering Black and White Ball at the Grosvenor House Hotel on London’s Park Lane, in an annual event where Cabinet ministers and Prime Minister David Cameron rub shoulders with some of the Tories’ wealthiest backers.
Guests, who included Majorca resident and staunch supporter of the Conservative Party, Peter Stringfellow, were reported to have paid up to £15,000 a table as party chiefs tried to raise £3 million to help fund the battle for the 7 May election.
Leading City financiers and top donors such as Andrew Law of Caxton Associates, Sir Michael Hintze of CQS hedge fund and party co-treasurers Michael Farmer, the metals trader, and James Lupton, the chairman of Greenhill Europe all hosted tables.
These individuals are among eight leading City backers who have donated £12.2m to the party so far in this parliament.
Other guests included Dame Karren Brady; Jacqueline Gold, Ann Summers boss; her father David Gold; Algy Cluff, the oil tycoon; and Nancy Dell’Olio, the lawyer and TV personality.
.Walking while drunk and jogging too fast could become illegal
Palma/Madrid.—Walking tipsy along the streets might be a thing of the past as Spain’s Directorate General of Traffic plans to introduce breathalyzser tests for pedestrians.
As the crackdown on what is deemed to be dangerous walking is explored, Spain might also introduce an off-road speed limit for joggers.
Buried among a group of other road safety suggestions; these proposals are aimed at giving Spanish pedestrians responsibilities similar to those held by drivers.
The plans are not popular and have sparked sparked disputes.
The government’s top advisory council called the plans a violation of Spaniards’ rights.
I had to check the date when i read this in the Majorca Daily Bulletin, it would make a great April Fools joke.

It always amuses me that every year in March the MDB run a story about falling unemployment and every October they run a story of increased unemployment.

The Daily Bulletin Journalist , One Time Bar owner and DJ passed away Yesterday after a short illness. RIP
In tribute to the Riki Lash. The man, the legend.
By Jason Moore
A dear friend, a great colleague, a loyal servant to this newspaper and a great character. These are some of the words which spring to mind when I think of Riki Lash, who died yesterday after a short illness. He was a legend on this island and enjoyed celebrity status. When I returned from work on my first day at the Bulletin back in 1987 the first thing that my parents asked me was;“have you met Riki Lash...” During the 1960s Riki had run one of the most successful bars on the island, My Own Place, in Es Jonquet in Palma. But it wasn´t just a bar. It was a radio station, also. Riki would broadcast live from MOP, interviewing guests from behind the bar. His show soon gained cult status on the island. Not only for his Californian style but also for his music. He was playing the latest hits from Britain and the U.S. long before they arrived in Franco-run Spain. Guests at his bar included the legendary George Best, the Manchester United and Northern Ireland footballer and Freddie Laker, the airline tycoon.
Riki dies 'Lash', an American media star in Mallorca
Richard Lazaar in the passport, but Riki 'Lash' to all who tried in Mallorca since the fifties of the last century, died Friday in Palma leaving a very difficult to cover in the world of communication, radio and written through. His enthusiasm as a journalist at the microphone and keyboard, arising from the naturalness and without artifice, aims to be unique among us.
In fact, his long residence in the island, with which always confessed have been married for love 'was Ramon Llull Prize for his services to the Region in 2007, could be summed between that radio phrase "If you like it, tell your friend "and the epitaph he wanted:" Life is true or not, "which for so many years moved to the reader in his column? Majorca Daily Bulletin .
Riki 'Lash' came to Mallorca in the same spirit with which he had succeeded in making radio and television from Beverly Hills restaurants in his native California, but with the responsibility of being a pioneer of these proposals in a country little connected with innovations. He came to make programs that talk to Sammy Davis Jr, Ava Gardner, Marilyn Monroe, Errol Flynn and Frank Sinatra, the latter her first employer while the legendary owner Ciro's Restaurant in Beverly Hills.
You may not landed with prestigious past but with their professional experience and a sympathy with which will always be remembered as the decision to be called "whip" (lash) when few advantages over nature have been known.
Perhaps still hear the echoes of their programs from entertainment that directed, the most emblematic is Jonquet My own place (MOP) - and from Ultima Hora Radio , but it is certain that in the pages of the Daily Bulletin will not disappear The Riki 'Lash' Lazaar Show because that is one way of doing journalism that made brand and opened an era.
Riki also leaves us at an ideal age. "In California is born and dies at 39," he said.
OK guys no panicko i have found a loophole in this "law", always carry gloves and knee pads so you can crawl home....problem solved.....simples![]()
