Sounds lovely Pops. I didn't manage to eat here with the family in July but I'm really looking forward to a visit on one of my 3 nights in October. Great pics Sea Captain. Can't wait to see the new decorations for myself.

O’ Lume is one of those all too rare places where you just know, almost as soon as you walk through the door, that you are going to have a good experience. The two guys front-of-house are welcoming and efficient. The menu looks interesting and, even though we only had an English language one, we could see that that few concessions had been made to accommodate tourists.

Bread, flavoured butters and a freebie tapa of Russian salad sets the scene.

I understand, from other threads, that the owner is from Northern Spain and, certainly, the menu has some reflection on that – a couple or so specifically Galician dishes and a couple more featuring cod or other Atlantic, rather than Mediterranean, fish.

Galician octopus is probably the best known dish of the region and was irresistible. Thickish slices of seafood, long-cooked until tender but still retaining a nice chewiness. It was flavoured with pimenton which gave a rich warmth from the spice and a little chilli-like heat. Fab!

Frito marinera was a fine example of the local dish – potato, onion, pepper, prawn, octopus, mussels and some bits of white fish. A really tasty concoction – brought together by good olive oil.

Hake provided the basis for one main course. A large thick fillet fried to perfection and unadorned by anything more than a spinkle of salt and a squeeze of lemon. A couple of boiled spuds and some fried veggies formed a simple accompaniment. Spain on a plate – fantastic ingredients cooked simply; cooked well. Who needs poncy food when you can eat this?

On the other side of the table, the same veggies and spuds sat alongside a prawn and scallop kebab. The scallops wonderfully sweet, if a tad overcooked. Shame that, but it’s terribly difficult to get right if you’re cooking scallops with something else. Prawns were spot on! Some care had been taken here in the kitchen as the prawns still had their heads & tails on but the shell had been removed from the fleshy part. Meant they looked superb on the plate but could be eaten with a knife and fork (I don’t follow my Mallorcan brother-in-law’s practice of sucking out the heads). A rich, creamy crawfish sauce provided the moistness. An absolute cracker of a dish.

Good homemade sorbet brought three blobs – one each of peach, apple and raspberry – each flavour clearly identifiable and contrasting nicely. The other dessert was described as a cheese mousse – something similar in texture to mascarpone but more chalky. Drizzled with honey, this was more “interesting” than “fabulous”. We declined coffee and an on-the-house digestivo.

Bottle of something Mallorcan, dry and white (from the Muscat grape) and a couple of bottles of water had been drunk. Bill was a very reasonable €75. Great place. Good honest food. Please go and try it.

Popped into O' Lume the other night, one of the more quieter nights, not so busy, until we were joined by 15 of the chefs and kitchen staff from the STAY on their bi-annual dinner. Praise indeed.

Hurrah = O'Lume has a web page - AT LAST!! Thanks Pollensa :D

We've never been to O Lume but are thinking of trying it next year. Can anyone tell me, is there anywhere to sit outside? I couldn't tell from Sea Captain's photos.

There dosen't seem to be one veggie dish on the menu, does anyone know if they do any at all? :(

They have a small "outside" eating area at the back, but it's more of a lean-to. I can remember it being quite hot in the summer.

There are no tables outside on the pavement (or there weren't when we visited).

Good question SWS.

I personally have avoided this restaurant for that very reason. I noticed ricotta pasta as a starter but beyond that nothing!

Pollensa, is there any way of asking Jaime the question?

Regards
Sharon

I ate in O'Lume last week and had grilled vegetables as a starter - absolutely delicious and a huge portion - but I don't recall seeing any vegetarian main course options.

Hi,

We are going to O Lume next week and I will inform Jaime of this discussion and forward his reply on this valid subject.

However, having got to know Jaime a little bit better since we have been living here, I'm confident he will be able to accommodate all taste's !

Thanks Pollensa I will try that.

Pinewalkstroll - look forward to hearing the outcome, thanks.

Can't wait to go

Just come back from PP and fell in love with the place. We ate out most evenings but missed O' Lume :( Booking after Christmas to hopefully go again next May/June so this one is definitely on the list!

Sharon when we went to O Lume our daughter did not want anything on the menu.Jamie was only too happy to acommondate whatever she wanted. She had spagetti bolognese!

Hi

I emailled Jaime as suggested by Pollensa to ask about veggie dishes and he responded very promptly. He said he was glad I had taken the trouble to ask the question and that all I needed to do was book a table and mention that I was a vegetarian. If I wanted to suggest the sort of thing I would like that wouldn't be a problem.

I am out next friday, but only for only 1 week, so hopefully we will get a chance to go to O'Lume. If not it will be on my list when we go out at Christmas.

Sharon:)

O Lume is one of the classiest places in the Pollensa area in my opinion. I hate seeing a good restaurant empty but I go there out of season and it tends to be quiet (quiet as in maybe we're the only people there on the night - and it deserves way better than that). Try it out people.

Hi Sharon,

As you have have now got the information you require direct from Jaime, there is now no need for me to ask him about the vegetarian options on the menu.

Enjoy your meal :)

After reading all the excellent reviews had to try O Lume was not disapointed. We went last Wednesday. I was given the impression it was more or less empty. Not so, it was as busy as most places at this time of year. Have to say this is added to our list of must visit. The food was fantastic as was the service. Will certainly be on the list when we return next year.
