Hire cars to have their own giant airport car park

AN industrial estate could be created in Son Garcies Vell, next to the airport, for hire vehicles.
This was announced by the head of Palma council’s Town Planning department, Yolanda Garvi.
She said that the Town Planning Management committee had approved proposing to the ruling parties on Palma council that an industrial estate be created to house hire vehicles.

The site they have in mind is 220'388 square metres in size.
Garvi said that once the proposal has been approved by a meeting of the full council, it has to be approved by the Council of Majorca.
The approval of this project has the support of the Transport department, which had already published a favourable report in July last year.
In a second report, it is claimed that the total number of comings and goings generated by this industrial estate would be 8'000 vehicles per day.

Hi Sharon,

In these scary days of terrorist attacks it doesn't really surprise me that they are moving more cars away from the airport. After what happened at Glasgow it's now not possible to get within 500 feet of Edinburgh airport - unless you are a licenced bus operator.

Last year being minibused out of the airport to get the hire car (and associated wait) came as a nasty surprise but this year we will be ready for it and will be more chilled - that's the plan anyway!
