We have done ikea twice, and suffering with arthritic knees i ended up in a wheelchair at Palma airport,as we popped in on our way home,much to my daughters delight( she had great fun with running round with her poor mother).That last bit of walking round ikea was too much for my poor old knees,i had to be driven to the plane and everything,it was so embarrassing,they just refused to work,it wasn't easy trying to stuff my ikea bargains in my case from my wheelchair,he he that will teach me.Probably not.

Sorry stir 0002 didn't mean to ignore you ,i suppose it must be like going home to you,we just want to know what its like to stay in another resort,i dont think santa ponsa sounds for us as we are rather older then you,thanks for giving me the info enjoy your trip in the summer.

thank you La la,it dosn't take a lot to confuse me,apart from the entertainment,what was the accomodation like?,would be travelling around a lot any way,it would be a base.Also animagic,i quite fancy Porto cristo any way,will look at that and the other campanet idea,thanks.

Hi Scarlett,

We were in the Sol Cala D'Or and it had seen better days - but was as I say - dirt cheap. There appeared to be some nice hotels though

have found good website called Holiday-Rentals from Home Away which has some lovely apts and villas all over island one inparticular cheap and in Port Andratx,try too avoid hotels,thanks again for replying.

Back to thread and my own faves are the drive from PP to Soller then on to Valldemosa and down to Palma and back, stopping at Lluc, Gorg Blau, Soller, Deia, Banyalbufar, Valldemosa, Palma then back via Inca. A long but brilliant day. The last two years we have have been out our apartment around 10am and and the flight has not been until late evening, we finish off our visit to the island with a meal in C'an Pedro in Genova.

Road Blockage PP to Soller

Back to thread and my own fives are the drive from PP to Soler then on to Valdemar and down to Paloma and back, stopping at Luca, Georg Belau, Soler, DEA, Banyalbufar, Valldemosa, Palma then back via Inca.

Magnificent route Mark but the road to Soller is blocked by a landslide at Escorca near the turning for Sa Colabra. I'm not sure exactly where though. There are signs at Pollensa and Soller in Spanish warning you of the blockage.

Has anyone mentioned Cala Bona to you? The Cala Bona Hotel overlooks the small, working harbour. Plenty of restaurants and bars next to it, it does get a bit noisy though if you've got a room at the front, but it's good for people watching. Just along from the Hotel Cala Bona is the Hotel Alicia, another good hotel. We have stayed in both a number of times. Cala Bona and the resort next to it, Cala Millor, are flat and pedestrianised so are good for leisurely walking (or cycling if you dare!)

Sorry there are some very nice places to visit and stay. I would like to be in PP long enough to consider a holiday on holiday!!

There are some very nice places in the SE past Andrax, San telm etc. We have even stayed out of the normal season in Palma Nova (in disguise of course). It was all inclusive!! but we weren't, we went out for meals and drinks because we couldn't stand the site of the large greedy wrist banders getting food and drink much more than their needs and leaving it everywhere, forgetting where they put it (it was free!!) and just getting more!!

One experience was enough, lets hope it never steps foot in PP

Having said that, out of the normal lager lout season it was a pleasant place and we did lots of fantastic walking.

Thanks for that,i had never considered that about all inclusive,just taking food like that,no any way we dont do hotels either,want a nice apt,and from what i have seen you have to be careful you dont end up in some huge complex with six pools etc.We are going in october so we want somewhere not too quiet,as it does tend to get a bit lonely that time of year,its my birthday thats why we want to go then can't be in england when your 60 oh no.Does Cala dor get very quiet?.
We have stayed in PP last four times and just fancied a change.Probably will regret it but want to have a go.

Hi Scarlett,

I would say that if you want to visit in October then you need to choose somewhere such as PP which is a working town all year round. My criteria for this is that there are schools and even better a year-round market. As far as I know Cala d'Or is very much a purpose built resort and so is likely to be pretty quiet in October.

Based on our recent visit , I would say that the nearest I have seen to PP is Puerto Soller as we went for a visit there at the end of Jan and I was surprised at how busy it was (there is a school but I don't think there is a market) - however I think a lot may be daytrippers. I've also hear that Soller town can be very quiet in the evenings which surprised me.

So although I've found lots of places I enjoy visiting around the island & maybe would stay a night or 2 (how about Palma?), I can't think of anywhere else that I would stay for any longer especially out of the main season. But that really depends on how much activity, bars & restaurants etc. that you like to visit.
