I couldn't agree more.

What gets me is the last paragraph. "Regrettable delay" and "being carefully controlled"?! Why the heck didn't they do that the first time round? I mean, it's hardly as if it's not been in the offing for more than a decade or so.

Arrive tomorrow We had no trouble in June wearing flipflops and really liked the wide pavements and lack of traffic on the front

Looks as though there will be some rain next week to wash away the dust !

The finish on the front there is better than most of our pavements at home nowadays !

We thought they were fine in August too - not perfect, and yes there are cracks, but to put it into context a stretch of pavement in my UK home town has just been dug up for the third time in eighteen months in an attempt to sort problems - these are so bad that elderly people have been tripping over. The fine art of making decent pavements seems to be in decline.....

Must agree with Kati1 a few cracks not the best finish but just as good or as poor back home. 3 days into a24 day stay and the new pavements won't put us off coming back, think back to the narrow pavements before having to step into the road to get passed others, my only gripe is why do cyclists have to use the pavement and not the cycle lane provided, are they a law on to them selves.

It's excellent news that the money has been finally confirmed. I'm also pleased that they are only doing up to La Gola, it's clear from the varying standards of the pavement it was rushed last year because they ran out of time. We have to hope they redo the pavement however, as Kate says was the case in her home town, otherwise we can forget it looking anything like the artists impression. The comparisons to home I think are misleading. Of course we have plenty of maintenance issues on old pavements but when a new job is done it looks like a new job and for a final spend of over 3 million euros shouldn't that be what we all expect ?

To see what it all 'could have / could' look like have a look at the 'See Mallorca' web-cam and have a look at Puerto Soller. A very tidy job with the majority (roads / paths) in varying coloured brick pavoirs / paving slabs.

It´s not really fair to compare the Port of Soller to the Port of Pollensa, as the paving was only part of a vast and very expensive project designed to divert the traffic from the front via a tunnel which went massively over budget.

Not only that, the whole thing took far longer than expected or promised.

The ministry of transport was also involved as there is a tram line running along the front, as well as were Costas who also subsidised some of the costs.

According to a source that I have no reason to disbelieve, the company which ended up doing the very nice and expensive pavement, which was done as per the project managers design and specifications, was not paid all the agreed sum and subsecuently went bankrupt.

Hi Molt, sorry you thought my 'comparison' was 'not really fair'.
After coming across the P. Soller Web-cam it was such a noticeable difference to the more recent works to the front line at PP. It was simply a comment how things 'could' have looked and how 'tidy' a job was done in comparison! Regards.....

Found no more cracks than in June ! Think the small concrete slabs with bobbles on were a mistake as with the intense heat they are bound to rise

Just love the lack of traffic along the front now Feel safe crossing even with the Bikes ! Particuarly by the shops nearer the town We only saw one person trying to go the wrong way along the front from a side road this time wheras in June it was happening all the time when it was new Just wish cyclists would not ride on the pavements Children seem to love the new star shaped seats to climb on !

Will be interested to see the improvements when we vist again next June

The 'small concrete slabs with bobbles on' are called tactile paving and are placed at crossings and kerbs to help visually impaired people. I think they are possibly a legal requirement and are used in most countries in the EU.


IMO the cracks are significantly worse than in June.

With the votes in favor of Junts, PP, PI and UMP and refraining from Tots and Alternative full yesterday approved the loan modification necessary to allocate the amount of 2,100,000 euros of cash surpluses to the development and implementation of improvement project of the first line of the Port. Puerto Pollensa pedestrianisation will not be completed this winter.

Pollensa's full council meeting on Thursday approved the budget for the second phase of Puerto Pollensa's (semi) pedestrianisation project, the ruling administration of the Junts and UMP gaining the support of El Pi and the Partido Popular (the Alternativa and Tots abstained).

However, the delay in definitively agreeing the budget means that there will in fact be three phases. Work that had been scheduled for this winter will not now be completed on time for next season; the town hall will be desperate to avoid any repetition of complaints that were made at the start of this season.

The reason for the delay was funding for the road and its resurfacing - it is in a deplorable condition as it is. The budget was dependent on a half a million euros contribution from the Council of Majorca, which is responsible for main roads. A council meeting at the end of July refused to give the go-ahead for the second phase because the Council's commitment appeared not to have been guaranteed. At the meeting in August, mayor Miquel March withdrew the item for discussion of the budget as this commitment was still outstanding. The Council met with the mayor in early September and finally did make it clear that the funding (494,000 euros to be precise) will be forthcoming. Under the agreement, the road will be ceded to the town hall, as it is to be reclassified................................

Full October: finally adopted the credit for the works of pedestrianisation and improvement from the first line of the port de pollença.

Yesterday was the regular council meeting held in October.(http://www.ajpollenca.net/sites/default/files/documents/edicte_convocatoria_ple_octubre.pdf) were voted 8 proposals. The proposal on the artistic committee of the festival was removed for better study. The other eight proposals votaren approved.
The municipal group of pp had filed a claim against the final approval of the budget for the works of the first line of the port de pollença. The Mayor of the motion to dismiss the claim (accompanied by the report of intervention in the same sense) was approved with votes in favour of together avançam, alternative, ump and pine (10 votes) and the Votes against pp and all by pollença (7 VOTES).
This way was dismissed the allegation and approve the budget of 2,1 million for the implementation of these works.

The last i read was that work would start in January but nothing has been reported about the contract even being awarded or to who, so it's anyone's guess .

Here is a rough translation of a report in the DDM today :-

The second phase of the Moll semi-finalisation will be exposed to the public twenty days.

The plenary will put to a vote the agreement with the Consell de Mallorca for the transfer of the first line.

The plenary summoned for today at noon in the municipality of Pollença will submit to approval the process of public exposure of the second phase of the Moll semi-designation project. This is a procedure that, according to the government team said yesterday, "is not prescriptive" and could be approved by the mayor Miquel Àngel March by a decree. Nevertheless, the councilor acquired the "commitment" to "give more participation and transparency to the project". The plan may be consulted and received for a period of twenty days after plenary approval.

The second phase of the semi -atomization project has an execution budget of almost 2.1 million euros. It includes the cobblestone of a part of the walk, the improvement of the bike lane, the habilitation of new garden areas and the installation of urban furniture. The wall and access to the beach will also be renovated.

Another point that will be discussed in the municipal plenary will be the approval of the agreement with the Consell de Mallorca for the transfer of the first line of the Moll to the City Council.

The City Council recalled yesterday that this road is owned by the insular institution, which had to deliver it to the City after the asphalt. However, the pollencí consistory considered it more appropriate for the Consell to contribute the economic amount corresponding to the asphalting project so that the municipal institution is able to carry out the most appropriate and adapted action to the overall project of semi-car-tuning. In this sense, the Consistory emphasizes that this route requires a performance that "goes beyond a simple asphalt".

The assignment of the first line is accompanied by a contribution of 494,000 euros, amount resulting from the assessment that the City Council has done on the cost that would have had the asphalt if it had executed the Consell. Government team sources stressed yesterday that this agreement is the "culmination of a long process from the moment the beltway was executed."
