prices in PP

Just left from Stanstead on Thursday and changed some money in the airport.I was given 1.11 euros to the pound, when I had my usual moan, the girl said I was lucky, it was 1 to 1 in Gatwick earlier this week.My point is, who is going to pay 4 and 5 euros for a pint in some of the Irish and Ausie pubs when they are bringing prices down at home to combat the credit crunch.I think PP might be a bit quieter next season unless some places stop being so greedy and that includes the restaurants. excellent point, i have had a bee in my bonnet about prices in pp for a while now, not just prices bars etc charge but accomodation also

we paid over £600 for a private apartment in october, very nice it was too but a bit steep, the same apartment in high season is over £1000

prices around the square in particular are too high, never been in bonys before so we ventured in to give it a try as it seems quite popular on here, 5 euro for a pint and 7 for a vodka and coke is a joke, we didnt stay for another

i was able to buy a can of lager in eroski for under 50 cents and a litre of vodka for 5 euro

i think if we go to pp next year it will be on a budget as things are getting tight all over

still love the place though

although i prefer to go to a pub for a drink, my wife has found wine at the supermarket for under a euro for a litre. i try to sneak out when she has had 2 euros worth. anybody got a big ladder!!!!!!!! gpm

gpm, i'm no wine drinker, i'm a pint of lager man but mrs gers assures me she found a very decent red plonk in eroski for 79 cents a litre, point proven i think, pp on a budget for us next year me thinks unless local prices are reviewed

Prices in PP

We all must remember it's not PP's fault the pound is plunging, nor should we expect them to lower their standard of living in order that we are not affected by the demise in our own currency. Not so good at the moment, but not so long ago we were getting 1.55 to the pound! Swings and roundabouts come to mind. There are still a lot of places you can go to which are considerably cheaper than Irish? bars. Bear in mind the generous measures in some of the more authentic bars and personaly i have no difficulty in avoiding the so called delights of these Aussie/Irish bars. We all must remember the days when you could get a bucket of wine and 200 fags for a pound are long gone.

My advice is to forget about rates of exchange, if your going, go and enjoy yourself, you never know, it could be your last.

Forget the commercialism of Bony's and the themed bars and you can still get reasonably priced food and drink in PP

my standard of living has suffered in the last few months in line with the downturn in our economy, why should businesses in pp keep their prices high and not come into line with the falling £, it is after all us brits that they count on for the bulk of their income

one bar owner i was talking to who was charging 4.50 euro for a pint off beer was boasting about how he hadnt put his prices up in 2 years, i politely pointed out that he hadnt reduced them either in line with the falling £

4.50 euro a pint is acceptable when the exchange rate was 1.40 odd but not now when its 1.15 or so

many business people in pp have become very rich on our £ over the years perhaps next year they should consider dropping prices a bit to help us out a bit

mrs gers usually books next years holiday to pp about this time but is holding off (like many) to see how things go over the next few months, pp my be very quiet next summer if things dont change

If a bar owner hasn't put his prices up in two years I suspect that his personal income income hasn't risen either, probably unlike the rest of us.

I don't see why Spanish business owners should come hurtling to the rescue of the Brits just because our government chose to stay out of the Eurozone. As someone else has said....it's swings and roundabouts.

Mind you, the way some Brits behave abroad the Spanish deserve every Euro they can extract from us!

I am afraid that the state of the £ against the euro has no bearing on the cost of produce on the island except if they are imported from the UK.

The bars and restaurants trade in euros - their overheads and wages and income do not fluctauate with the state of the £. What seems now to be expensive to us is not to them.

For better value at the present time you will have to go outside euro zone.

disorderly, if your personal income has risen in the last couple of years you are very lucky as most of the folks i know havent, myself included

if spanish business owners dont come to our rescue next season the port will be a very quite place

we go out with the family every mid october during the scottish school holidays and i can honestly say i have never seen pp that quiet at night before, many business people told me the same saying that they thought that families that went twice or 3 times a year were cutting down to once or twice

we did not go this summer therfore i am unable to comment on wether it was still as busy during high season or not, but from what i'm told it wasnt

prices in the supermarkets there are very favourable compared to here yet the finished product when it arrives on your dinner table is more expensive than here, ok i'm comparing it with the west of scotland i am well aware there are more expensive parts of the uk than here

i genuinely believe we are due a price break in these difficult times, reading other posts on here regarding accomodation rates and from what i have seen myself in brochures some are charging 20% more than this year for 2009, how can that be justified?

Whether you accept that the level of increases are justified or not is another matter, but the fact is that increases of 20% are largely a direct result of the exchange rate.

We were out in summer when exchange rate was 1.19, was lot quieter than previous years. Don't think this was so much to do with the rate just people don't have as much in general to take on holiday with them due to prices being so high at home.
I agree if you avoid Bonys and the themed pubs prices are not too bad we found bars for 3.50 pint 4 euros shorts and they were lot larger than at home.
Even if rate goes to 1 to 1 a lot of places still work out cheaper than at home, just depends where you go to eat/drink. Feels like more because we don't eat out/ drink every night in uk. We will be back next year just may have to have couple of take aways before heading out for night caps.
would still rather have PP than cheap drinks/meals in magaluf any day

Prices in PP

Gers, (as a Celtic supporter youve no idea how hard it was to type that). last year there was a couple of bars on Roger de Flor, 3 streets back from the front, which were selling pints of beer for around 2 euro, big bottles of magners were around 3. The Music Bar and another just further along, nice bars too. Don't hold me to the prices, but bars can be found, i,ve never been a fan of the square anyway. If people want to pay ridiculous prices then that's their choice, most of it is going into the one guys pocket.
