Sparky - Having just seen one of your KMZero pics when they were building the fire, I am not surprised!! It is just so close to the window and building - I cant believe it:eek:

Great photos Sparky.
Thats our table, in Nossies, behind Colin!:D

Yes Rosie it's like i have said before...there is no "Elf and safety" ;).

Well guys it was hell out there but i forced myself to to visit a few of the bars so that i could report back to you .
No seriously it was a fantastic night in the Port, great atmosphere as always and it was so good to see quite a few forum members here in different bars. I think it was about 4am when i eventually staggered home, oh my poor head this morning.
Will be off out again soon, the "Blessing of the beasts" will be underway at the church, and then we will wait for the pine to arrive :D.

More photos of the fires are here San Antoni 2012 - a set on Flickr

Thanks Sparky, that brings back some memories for when we were last over for San Antoni in 2008, wish we ere there enjoying the festival now.

Great phots sparky, thanks:) I thought KMZero building looked familiar and now noticed on a photo that it is next to the Anita apartments - we once had a lovely week in their penthouse one year - but that was outside the bonfire season;)

Hi Sparky, thank you so much for the story & photos so far. As you know we REALLY wanted to get over this year as we've retired but it was not meant to be. However I think I'll just book flights in the summer for 2013 cos we so much want to be part of the atmosphere for the fiesta. Looking forward to watching the rest of the day pics. have a fantastic time.

Well what can i say, i am so disappointed :(. After all the excitement, waiting for the tree to arrive in the square, the strap was still attached to the crane and a guy started to climb it, he went straight up only stopping once or twice and that was it.....over and done with.
I spoke to a couple of locals who helped to drag the tree around the Port and they were furious because they had told the guy in charge that it had not been soaped and he needed to wait but he ignored them.
It is such a shame for the first time visitors who were expecting to see many try and fail but more importantly for the bars and restaurants who were hoping to have some much needed trade.

Spent the day with friends and their Mallorcan friends celebrating San Antoni Pollenca style. We followed the chimaneas (bagpipes) upto the Ternelles valley where along with 4 - 5 thousand people we had lunch. The ayuntamiento had provided bread, sardines ,olives, tomatoes ,olive oil, salt and plenty of red wine. There were barbeques burning and we cooked our buttifaron, sardines, pork etc and all shared. Then it was time to lead or follow the tree on its gun carriage back down the valley. At various points all stopped and the locals danced to the music then onwards again. We made it back to the town in time for coffee before venturing back out into the street to watch the pine manoevre its way around the narrow streets. I guess it may just have made it to the square by now. We obviously didn't wait to watch the climbing. But it was a great day. I don't have flickr so am not sure I can post the pictures here, sorry.

St Antoni in two words, completamente fantástico, you have to see it for yourselves if you haven't yet

Great photos Sparky, worrying thing is we cant remember you taking it  :o

What a great day you had Lollipop! Isn't it lovely to do as the locals do and join together to enjoy a festival. This is what is so nice about Pollensa out of season too.

We have only been able to visit once at this time of year and remember it to be a great happy event with so many taking part. A wonderful atmosphere and a time we intend to share again hopefully.

Watched it on IB TV last night, the tree wasn't in place until 7.45 so it was quite late by the time they climbed. I understand the prize was 1000 euro's, how does that match the Port Sparky do you know. I think it was about 300 last year.

Wow!!! Lollipop a 1000€ might give it a try next year ;).
I have no idea how much the prize was in the Port this year but was told last years was 500€.
