Picolo forno

Whenever we come over, on average 5 times a year, we love to start our holiday with the first night at Picolo Forno, glad to hear the food is still good. We're coming over on Saturday so we'll be testing it out.

Well if " Scacco Matto" means chess piece in Italian it's certainly chessmate !!

Having been back three weeks was a wee bit wary of trying what was my fave restaurant in Pollenca .

Was not disappointed one jot after we went last night. The only difference from Piccolo's was the colour of the new awning and the name. They have added a great italian buffet as well for 8.50 Euros per head .

Avoided this as would have pigged out too much as a starter but one of our dining companions did opt for this as a main course.

The pasta was to die for , as usual, I had black ravioli stuffed with crab and served with clams. Unbelievable quality for 10 or 11 euros and BLT said her sea food spaghetti was as great as ever.

Puds devine as well and at 4 euros a real steal .

They've obviously taken a gamble ( the staff who were left high and dry ) but if they keep serving food like this they'll survive and grow.

Three quarters full on a cold & wet Tuesday night ( all locals ) .

Highly, highly recommended

That sounds great!

Can you remember what the desserts were? I always look at what's on offer on that side first. :D

How about the buffet? Anything stick in your mind that was on offer?

I just know I'm going to end up a stone heavier when I come home!

Mearsy,

Well Tiramasu ( which I had ) & various other chocolate Italian delights

The buffet well, don't know where to start , think fabulous anti pasto , salads, rice dishes, anchovies on and on and on. Not some poor excuse for a buffet by any means !!!!

Seriously great grub so enjoy when you go .

BL - Do you know if the kitchen is open all day and if so, is the buffet available lunch & evening?

BL - Do you know if the kitchen is open all day and if so, is the buffet available lunche/evening?

Whaley,

Think the kitchen is probably open all day but be surprised if the buffet is available lunchtime which will inevitably be quiet.

Enjoy anyway

They were definitely open at lunchtime when we were out - closed one day a week but can't remember which - have a feeling it is Monday or Tuesday. Actually we went twice at lunchtime and although we didn't have difficulty getting a table it was pretty busy with locals having lunch both times - busier than it ever was as Piccolo Forno.

They weren't doing the buffet in the evening in April - can't wait to try this.

Worth remembering also that they do takeaway pizzas.

And as you'll see they are now open:
All Year Every Day 1pm - 4pm and 7pm - 11:30pm

The buffet is also served every day lunch times & evenings.:)
