BD I agree that there are many ways to make a Mojito but they all have rum and a champagne cocktail should have champagne (or at least cava). There was not room in the glass to get more than a thimbleful of any liquid. Seriously though, I do hope they sort themselves out as I am staying about 100m away from there in June and had been looking forward to some nice cocktails and people watching. I will watch this space for reports from other members of the forum on this bar. It's a dirty job but someone has to do it!!!

Sadly on the basis of our visit last night I have to report that this cafe isn't the welcome addition to PP I had hoped for...It looks fabulous so we decided to go for a cocktail. Sat down...'At these prices the service is bound to be fantastic,' I said confidently, and waited for the smartly dressed waiter to materialise. And waited. And waited...Twenty minutes later he finally appeared.
Asked if we wanted to see the food menu. 'No, we just want a drink,' we replied, by now more than a little hacked off. 'Oh,' he said... And disappeared again. Didn't ask for our drinks order...we thought maybe it was personal, and he didn't like the cut of our jib, but he didn't seem to be serving anyone else either. So I'm afraid we walked. Went round the corner to Nostalgia where we did get fantastic service, and a great cocktail, at half the price.

This place still could do well, but if you charge what Claridges charge for drinks you have to provide a Claridges level of service. That means a waiter by your side as soon as you sit down, preferably bearing a tray of suitable snacks, and offering to fulfil your every whim. Bar Cappuccino seems to have a very long way to go...

We passed by on the otherside since our arrival on Monday and seeing the price of coffee. We found that 2 coffees at stay was only marginally more expensive than one at cappuccino. No contest!
Eventually succumbed this morning - in the interests of research - 2 coffees €4.90. Service by smart young man in a suit faultless. Interior is many steps above a beach side bar. Had a good look at food menu - certainly above the average prices, though if the quality and service are matching the costs may be ok.It remains to be seen whether they will get enough punters in. Certainly lacking signing outside to tell punters this is a cut above(in cappuccinos opinion) surrounding places. Nothing to make you choose cappuccino over it's neighbours if you are just walking past.
We fetched up at Laguna for lunch - big menu, well cooked. Friendly service and wifi.and still some change in my pocket. Time for another beer:)

Claridges must have seriously discounted prices since I was last there

Very objective post,Kate,

Service and price should be totally unrelated, IMO if you are running any form of restaurant / cafe .

One thing I am sure we all agree on , however much we have our own particular favourites is that good service is generally the norm here in PP.

They'll certainly need to "step up to the plate" if they want to make any impression here.

Typing this at Marina Cafe , where my c 1.50 Euro coffee was brought promptly and with a lovely smile from the waitress.

BonysLad :):)

Thanks for the post Kate. Very disappointing. We had a look around today and agree it looks fab. However on this occasion we decided to keep walking and had our coffee instead on a favourite of mine, the decking at Hostal Bahia. Coffee and biscuit €2, location perfect and service with a chat and a smile. It seems we made the right choice.

Ray - can't comment personally on Claridges as I have never been, but husband says he remembers (doubt he'll ever forget!) paying £10 for a gin and tonic there last year. Price at Bar Cappuccino last night: 12 euros... Also the drinks menu was very specific that these were 5cl measures - which I suspect is small by Mallorcan standards.

We may go back and give it another try - if we haven't been blacklisted, that is... But I suspect we will be joining BL for more fun at half the price at the Marina Cafe!

Oh dear, not good atall. Good service is a necessity not really a requirement. People just need to keep complaining, surely the message will get through? Although in my humble opinion perhaps a complaint needs to be addressed to a manager rather than a waiter?

Time will tell....

cheers as long as pp gives choice it will remain popular

5 cl does seem a bit on the miserable side, especialy for what they're charging!

OK for lightweights like Bonyslad, but some of us like a bit more in our glasses;)

Tried to sneak that one in when I was on me death bed ,eh mate ?

5 cl must have been the size of the punchbowl at your last Hogmanay party which we all shared !!

And they try to tell us the Scot's aren't mean, guys !!

BonysLad ;)

Eventually gave in to better half's request and went for drink at Cappuccino.Walked in from street;nicely done out inside.Three waiters all greeted us.Sat on terrace at front in full view of the waiters.Ten minutes passed and eventually we were asked what we wanted to drink. While waiting another waiter asked if we wanted to eat.I replied that we were very thirsty!Another thirteen minutes passed and our drinks came.Total cost for 1 pint and 1 vino blanco was 10.80euros.I left a tip of one cent so they would be aware that their service was unacceptable.
Do you know that a pint at the Miramar is 3euros,and the view is much better than at Cappuccino's.

As I said some time ago just an expensive spanish starbucks and by the sounds of things not even the service level of a starbucks, maybe they should try to recruit some Mcdonalds staff, baseball caps with a capital C might fit the bill :D:D

All sounds a great pity after a lot of hard work to provide a first class (looking) venue.
Sounds like an expensive advert for the 'Bar Cappucino' business - something to be looked at but not indulged in. Surely there must be someone who can sort out this mess. It's got to come from the top. Locally the Manager - but it does seem that he is NOT doing his job and organising his staff correctly - and upwards... the Directors of the business. What are they doing about it, do they know?. They've got the basics - the new Cafe / Bar - I would of thought the good service would have come naturally, especially in a place like P.P. where there are many other very good establishments. By the sounds of things... OBVIOUSLY NOT!
Does it also reflect on Sis Pins in any way, I really hope not for their sake.

I have to say I did have a coffee there a couple of weeks ago and no problem with service. We must complain to someone about the service when not happy otherwise they will not put it right.

When they get a load of Germans in the service level will go up don't you worry!!!

Went past numerous times last week, never more than a few tables taken, problem with the signage I think, we went past one of the others in the group in Valamossa I think, absolutely packed, lots of signs and prominent use of the logo!!

Think we may agree about this one - quote of my post from the 14th - "It remains to be seen whether they will get enough punters in. Certainly lacking signing outside to tell punters this is a cut above(in cappuccinos opinion) surrounding places. Nothing to make you choose cappuccino over it's neighbours if you are just walking past."

After a day driving between garden centres and lugging heavy troughs up to the roof terrace, we decided to treat ourselves to the long awaited evening out to Cappuccinos.

I really wanted to be impressed with this Bar/Restaurant and to a greater extent we were.
It was still chilly on Friday night – rain and cold wind being the order of most of our ten days away actually – so we opted to sit inside. The décor is fabulous and very comfortable, with the lovely soft jazz playing in the background. (And NO tv, thankfully, which was a real bug bear whilst eating out this week!)
The smartly dressed and smiling waiter came to take our order almost immediately. We had a drink each to start, I had a mojito and hubby had a small beer. A small pot of peanuts was placed on the table with the drinks.
The menu is not particularly extensive, I chose the prawn and chicken noodle dish, and hubby had a lasagne.
My dish was superb, served up in a big bowl with a good helping of prawn and chicken with the noodles and included plenty of veg in it too.
Hubbys on the other hand was pretty minimalist, just a smallish portion of albeit tasty lasagne, on a tomato soup reduction. Not a meal to stave off any hunger pangs. Hubby finished off the lasagne, then the nuts, and helped out with my noodle dish – flipping cheek!
We had a glass of house red and a glass of house white with our meal, pleasant, but I can’t actually remember what it was.

We decided to end our evening with a couple of cappuccinos whilst we sat on their very comfy sofas, listening to the music and watching the world go by outside. People wandered in – and usually out again – or just sat outside with their coats on by the cosy looking fires, which don’t actually give out much heat by the way, drinking their evening coffees whilst the waiters busied themselves with bringing in chairs from the terrace out by the private pier – which may have made a scrape or two on the shiny floor!
I also treated myself to one of their CD’s.

I loved the ambience of Cappuccinos and if I were a millionaire I would visit every evening, however I am not, and I do also like to feel just a little tipsy after a mojito! Service could be a little sharper, although they always seemed to be busy, it did take a little effort to catch their eye.

This restful evening came to €84. We ate in the following night!:o
