First of all, apologies for calling it Spiro in recent posts! Having mentioned it, I thought I'd post a quick review.

It's quite a small, cosy restaurant which appears to have gained a number of local fans in the year or two it has been open. Decorated in simple, modern style with lots of artwork and a very friendly atmosphere, it seems to succeed at what it's trying to do - which is offering Mediterranean food with a twist. The menu's quite short - if I had one criticism it would be the lack of starter choices - though you can have starter-sized portions of pasta. They also serve pizza, which is handy if eating with fussy children. On our first evening we enjoyed a lovely fresh beef carpaccio, followed by what was undeniably the best steak I have ever eaten. Anywhere. It was 'buey de gall ego', which they had translated as 'ox' - still not sure exactly what it was, but it was fantastic, served with a topping of gorgonzola and a port wine sauce. OH, less adventurous than me, had a bog-standard solomillo which he raved about. Spira had a wood fired oven so I assume this is where they grill the meat - which was beautifully presented.

Today we returned for the Menu del Dia - a choice of five starters, main courses and puddings (or coffee if preferred), and including a drink (in our case, a very generous glass of wine), all for 12.90 euros. The food was more traditional than the a la carte menu, as you'd expect, but was of excellent quality - we loved our lentils with bacon, followed by not one but two chicken breasts in mushroom sauce (him) and beef stew (me). My Mallorcan pudding was good but I wished I'd listened to OH and gone for the mint panna cotta - which was gorgeous. Spira is definitely on our Favourites list - a good choice of local wines too.

Are you having a laugh Rosie :):D;)

Husband just got back from a flying visit to Pollensa and can report that Spira is now open again after redecoration and is as good as ever. He had excellent beef carpaccio and a really good lomo con col - even the bread is homemade. (He also enjoyed Scacco Matto and Asiatica - both really good value).
