Tapas

Hiya Lala

You are right, it is by Iru and yes it is a little bit like "tapas for tourists" .............. but still really nice

Bottom line is want a normal Tapas lunch or early dinner - go to Neptuno

Want an "occasion" - overspend on the front ...... buy the lifestyle once in a while ................ what the hell my friend was paying lol :):):)

The Tapas on the front is run by a lovely Spanish couple called Elena and Miguel. Miguel creates and cooks the dishes. They are very hard working and strive to provide a more "upmarket tapas" if thats the right way to word it. They also have the Beef Club and tapas further in town. They always have time for a chat and we always think its a perfect place to relax take, in the view and finish off our holiday.

Bella, Debs

Yup, read in the local paper that because of the increased fire risk to the Balearics they were basing another plane here in the port.

Chocs away, Biggles !!!!!

BonysLad :):)

Bonnyslad,

Biggles never ate chocs (chocholate), and he only ever drank earl grey tea, and the second plane from Flyglobespan!! That well known edinburgh based company.

Cheapo imports from bonny scotland. Ye canny whack it!

cheers,

jimbo

Apart from excellent steaks, Naciente is also good for tapas. When we are out to dine with the family we often have a selection from their tapas menu.

Has anyone tried the restaurant next to the Eroski by the Formentor Road. I noticed in Jan that they had an extensive list of dishes offered as tapas and also larger 'raciones' but did not get around to trying them.

Marilyn

I have never tried it but have noticed that it is always popular with the locals. Usually a good sign.

Tapas on front

Almirant is fast becoming one of our favourite spots. Tha lady there is absoultely delightful and always smiling. Try the tuna dish it's amazing!

I agree Graham, the lady in question is, I think Elena, her English is perfect as her mother is English. she always remembers us as we visit each time we are in PP, often Miguel will bring us out a little dish he has created to see what our reaction is. They deserve to do well, it maybe a little expensive as its "on the front" but you can be assured of good standards each time. They work very hard and I hope it pays out for them they are lovely.

We tried Almirant last september for the first time, their were 4 of us and didn't really know what to order or how much, we were going to order 3 dishes each & share them but the lady who served us was very good and advised us that 3 each was too much, and she was right, the portions were a decent size and her recommendations were excellent. She could have let us order too much and take the money but will certainly go back after getting great food & excellent service.

My Mum has just alerted me to something in the original post on this - Bona Cepa has closed for good!!
No - I can't believe it.

This is so sad - it was was one of my favourite places both for lunch and dinner. The back area was such a lovely place too and always seemed full of local people rather than tourists.

Does anyone know if the owners have set up anywhere else. I can't remember what the owner/chef is called but his wife is Lally and their son Jaime used to work in the restaurant - he had left last year though.

What a shame...yet another fantastic restaurant makes way for yet more apartments.
The local council want bringing to task now - can't they see how this sort of thing just destroyed other resorts on the Island.

Sorry, I have gone off track but I am really gutted about this.

Returned on Monday - The weather was good but very "breezy" some days and the nights were cooler than expected..but where were the sunbeds...not one to be seen on the beach??

As we were only there for a week we ate out most nights.

Monday - Can Picoteo..Tapas,the wonderful "Tomato bread" and a mixed board..an easy start to the week. Also had several "nightcaps" there..Miguel's banter is "fantastic"

Tuesday..Brisa marina..Mr B had the sirloin of pork with pepper sauce and I had the sea bass.lived up to our expectations.
I did ask if the soup of the day was by any chance the potage / lentil but it wasnt...we were told later the "the chef say Thursday"

Thursday - Suttons.
To Start.I shared a lamb tartare which was delicious.Mr B shared chicken "tikka"
Main Courses -Mr B - pork fillet(I cant remember what the sauce was) and it was served with diced, saute vegetables & potatoes - he said it was delicious and so tender.
I had Cod fillet with aioli & pear- again served with the vegetables - it was very yummy and would recommend it.
Friends that were with us had the steak and the mussels (which I have to say looked and smelled fantastic - the best I have seen for a long time)
We also called in there for a lunchtime snacks also for drinks or coffees.I would have to say that although the menu is not extensive it is
it is imaginative and very well cooked and presented. It is a delight to eat there.

Friday - la Piazza
Mr B and I shared Bruchetta as a starter. He had Spaghetti with meatballs and I had the wild mushroom risotto.it was fine but not a "Wow"

Saturday - back to Brisa Marina (see previous post)

Sunday - friends took us to L'Aup -never been there before. It was very quiet and unfortunately too cold to sit on the terrace.

We shared a plate of mixed croquettes to start (the chicken and curried fish). They were a pleasant surprise
For Mains - our friends both had steaks -one had entrecot and the other fillet (which I have to say looked superb)
Mr B had Monk fish marinara and I had the chicken breast stuffed with sundried tomato and sobrasada served on a bed of mashed potato.
Both dishes can be recommended.
I would cerainly like to return in the summer when it would be busier and with a little more atmosphere (and of course be able to dine Al fresco)

Roll on July...a little dieting is now required to rid the "excess baggage" in readiness :D

:D

Cath,

Enjoyed your reviews and glad you had a good week. Apparentlly the council are late in letting the contract this year for the hamacas. They sub contract on an annual basis. Now into May and no sign as yet. Someyears they have put out early only to find have of em in Alcudia after Spring storms !!!!

They'll be here for July.

BonysLad :):)

We "found" Suttons for the first time in January, they were only serving food lunchtimes then but we had several lunches there. We loved the food and thought it was excellent value. Cannot wait to try their evening meals in August.

By the way CathB where is Can Picoteo? Sounds delish - would love to go there.
Marilyn

Depends which way you approach it - Can Picoteo is near Simbad...next door to Olivera's or from the other direction - Its just up the road from Burger King...there is the Taj Donor Kebab place on the opposite corner then its a few doors up from there. It's open all year and lots of locals use it.
