I believe they are actually flying boats although most people call them sea planes and what the difference is between a flying boat and a sea plane is I have no idea.

I am not doubting it at all, it's just that i haven't heard it in relation to the Canadair aircraft
. I do know that there was a squadron of Sunderlands based in Plymouth during the war and they were known as flying boats, way before my time of course
.

The arrival of the cyclists en masse! (Please note I absolutely DO NOT want to start a debate about whether they are a good thing or not.....) Also, to me the season hasn't really started until the Miramar opens and I can sit on their lovely terrace with a cafe con leche or a large G&T.

a good sign is when you see white vans appearing outside the beachfront restaurants, a sure sign that they have started work to get them ready for opening

Dear fellow Bird Watchers
The Red and Yellow Canadair is a well respected and welcome visitor to the Port in the Summer.Where it hibernates in the winter is not Known.
As most of you know it has floats on each wing and a hull is it a hybrid ???.

All this talk of the new season, just had to take a walk along the prom on Google street view, they have updated it up to November last year, so pretty much as it must look now, great fun!!

I think the wing mounts are stabiliser floats. I like the idea of having stabilisers especially after a visit to Bonys.

" A Font " Well that's better that similar sounding things I have been called over the years.
As for that flying thing, it's no good asking me.
I come from an era where you put on a leather flying helmet and goggles.
Then you stood in front of the plane and pulled the propeller to get it started. That was followed by the pilot shouting " chocks away" and that was just to get on a passenger jet to go on holiday.
