Would be intrigued to know how it got its name.

One of our real favourite top of the pops restaurants... has it all, unusual and very stylish setting, good service, fantastic menu - in fact I wondered if the photos in the menu were meant to be a bit ironic, as I avoid places that have photos of food outside and Stay is not a place I would avoid at all!
We went twice, trying to remember what we ate, may have to jog some memories and come back on that one... highly recommended for a sophisticated night out.

Hi penny,
The stay restaurant sounds great, i fancy giving it a try, but would you recomend i take 3 children there? Do they have kids menus?
I have been reading all your post with interest as we are going (for the first time) at the end of aug. Cant wait

Pretty sure they didn't have kids menus, best plan would be to stroll up there after you have arrived and have a look at the menu and setting and decide for yourself, largely depends on the children and what they will eat: there are things like calamari and steaks as well as more complicated stuff. You may have to book as well (ask for a table on the water side and the kids can watch out for fish as well - that's also the trick at Illa dOr).

Eating out at Stay

It is no problem taking children to Stay We have taken our Daughters their since they were 6 & 10. Their is not a traditional "kids menu" but Joseph and his staff will help with chips and stuff. This is a top class place so if the kids cant behave reasonably i would not put yourself through the stress:

Re: Eating out at Stay

Used to think this was a good restaurant but the last time we went ,about 3 years ago,we were all far from impressed and thought it was over rated. Great location but thought it lacked atmosphere , and the food was ok'ish not brilliant:|

They had also started putting photos of each dish on the menu!!! Isn't that what they do in Burger king? Surely the description of a dish should be enough to get the taste buds 'tingling' :p

Re: Eating out at Stay

Went here last night and as usual all was very nice. As has been mentioned somewhere before it is closing in November. I asked the owner/manager about it, and he said that it would close in November and then they were going to totally demolish it and then re build it. How much could that cost!!!!
I'll remember that next time I look at the prices on the menu:eek

Re: Eating out at Stay

Hi everyone
We went to Stay last week & i have to say it lived up to all expectations, it was great!

Great food - i had the fillet of beef, lovely. & wife had chicken in creamy mushroom sauce, she said it was lovely as well. One of the kids had the chicken & the other had a hamburger with chips, both of them cleared their plates which is very unusual for them!

Great location - we were sitted centre, right by the waters edge. Perfect for watching the sunset.

And lastly, but by no means least, great service. very professional but friendly, the waiters/waitress kept on coming over making sure everything was ok & gave the kids bread to feed the fish! We even got a comlimentry brandy at the end!!
(i want to be there now:( )

I could not reccomend this restaurant highly enough & hope it has re-opened next year when we COME BACK! (51 weeks to go & counting:rollin )

Eating Out at Stay

Its always a pleasure, the staff are always very attentive and the location superb. Apparently the Guardia Civil are taking over part of the site where Stay is and they are moving further down but we couldn't quite understand how far further down was! and began to wonder if it was the next pier where La Longa used to be! but just speculating:rollin :eek

Re: Eating Out at Stay

Glad to hear you had a good time Jiggy, it seems a long time since we were there....:\

Re: Eating Out at Stay

Happy days and great memories Lady Pollenca, still the best place to eat in the Port by far, although it's not quite the same without Head Honcho Jose . Seems a lifetime and several bottles of Rueda ago since we were all there together, Lord Two Bottles on the next table and a conversation with the trees on the way home.

And on our last night, I'd only popped in to book that afternoon, "anything left by the water?", I asked , they couldn't make any promises, and yet when we walked in at about 9.00pm, a table for two, right by the waters edge, halfway down, perfection. I'm sure Senor Ken must have had a word with the management!

Re: Eating Out at Stay

Hi Steve, great to hear from you, regards to yourself and Pollenca Poppett, happy memories all round, good friends make fantastic holidays:rollin :rollin Jose is a miss but at least we know where to catch up with him! Always a superb location and great service. It does seem seven bottles of Rueda ago, not that Im counting but I think you drank 6 of those bottles Steve!!:D :D 'Table by the waters edge' you've been going there so long I'd heard you had shares in the place!!!

Re: Eating Out at Stay

Hi everyone - our first post, so Hello everyone!:D Just returned having eaten at Stay and spoken more to the boss. Apparently the place having been built about 25 years ago, was starting to show signs of structural weakness, and as such the total rebuild was the only option. He is to close November as you all say, and asked for completion he said he was aiming for Easter 2006 (13 April), however I think he realistically thinks it will be early May. He is himself going to be project managing it so the contractors will have fun! He also mentioned that a major part of the work includes the extention of the side concrete dinning area (where the Formentor Glass Bottom Boats moors) further into the sea - can't imagine what work that will entail! A whole new kitchen is to be installed, so I too wonder how this cost will be recouped, as the menu I find is about at it's maximum I feel it's worth at the moment! Thoughts go to what the excellent staff will do, and I suspect some losses will occur to other extablishments - already know of one redcoat on her way!
