Just taken some photo´s of the new road before the opening, stood right in the middle (won´t be able to do that again without getting killed!) Aparently, the opening is scheduled for Friday at 11 but this is only going to be the official opening and I believe that the complete road will not be fully opened on this date, just parts of it (not sure which parts).

Thanks for that whaley, could you let us see the pics to see what its like, also any update on the closure of the beach road up to the port?
:)

Latest update

Just had message from Debz;

The by pass is about to open sometime today. officials are having lunch in a marquee erected on it at the moment!

Hope they get their timings right! LOL!!;)

New Road

I've just driven the whole length of the new road.

It was opened at 11.00 today, well, a bit late, and the fact that it took about two hours to remove the tent that they had the official opening in, has nothing to do with it.
Yes, they put up a tent in the middle of the road to do the opening and eat etc.

It is all very splendid and will certainly shorten some of the journeys I take about town.
It's exposed one or two very nice properties, and one or two that need a bit of tidying up.

Game for the kids.........spot the concrete pigs!

Cheers!

Frito.

Passed the new road yesterday and yes it is open, with cars driving up and down, will post some photo´s when I get home as I am using internet cafe while here in PP. Have not heard any further news re the pedestrianisation though, I will do some scouting.

new ring road

Drove down the new road this morning and it's brill! No more negotiating the chicane in C/La Gola/Temple Fielding, no more dodging suicidal pedestrians and triple-parked vehicles on the Paseo Saralegui, just a breeze down a wide open road, and fabulous view of the bay as you re-join the coast road just before Club del Sol. Great!
Plus I was at the opening ceremony yesterday and while the Minister of Roads spoke about a pedestrian walkway from Pollensa town to Puerto Pollensa (alongside the existing road) linking up with the new Parque La Gola, and the Pollensa mayor spoke about pedestrianising the sea-front road from the Eolo roundabout as far as La Gola, and possibly with a second phase continuing it to Llenaire. No mention was made of any further pedestrianisation on the road to Alcudia.

...so what change does the new road make when we are coming into Llenaire from the airport in a couple of weeks folks?...:)

Does this extend the motorway link or change our route?..

(we used to go on the Pollensa road at the end of the Motorway and then take a right turn at the roundabout with the boatyard), to cut through to Llenaire past the Pollensa Park hotel...can/should we do this?..

If I recall correctly, you will take exactly the same route, the only difference being that at the roundabout you will go onto the new road, and this takes you round the back of Llenaire. If you continue on you come out on the coast road just before the bridge and cut back, towards PP.

Just returned this week and hopefully today will get time to try and figure out how to get my photos of the new road, minutes before opening, onto the forum. Watch this space:confused:

Thanks Sea Captain, great pics. We walked along the stretch between Gommar and Cabrabo end in May, it was raining but it is a good shortcut.:D

Thanks for the pictures Sea Captain - brilliant as usual.

I can't see a footpath from the pictures. Do you just use the cycle track if walking?

Regards

Sharon

Hi Mark

Yes I think it does.
It then cuts accross to the Gotmar area, past Las Velas appartments and also near to the Pollensa Park Hotel. Then out to the coast road.

Wow!

Not as good as Sea Captains (which are brilliant) but it worked I'll now try to upload the others.
