It's been so long since I've holidayed in Europe and, as I live in the U.S. we tip EVERYONE & their mother so I was just wondering if some of you could give me some "tips" as to who I should & shouldn't tip in Majorca. I know the obvious re. restaurants & cab drivers, but what about if you're just in a bar for a drink for instance?

Linzzzz, We (Caroline & I) leave at least a 10% tip everywhere except shops, if the serve was up to it!, more if we feel it was worth more than the normal 10%. we don't just tip like this in Mallorca we do it in the UK too.
we know that Americans are great tippers, just do what you feel.
Most of all enjoy your holiday Linzzz, Mallorca is a beautiful island head up into the mountains by bus or hire car, you'll love the scenery along the west coast.
Hope that helps.

Info I was given a long time ago is if you are served at table by waiter or barman you tip... about 10%, if you are up at the bar you don't tip unless you have had a particularly good time when you just leave small change (unless of course you have had a more than particularly good time and you leave your entire wallet......)

Thanks guys.
How about other vendors, like people on the beach etc.?

I don't think the hamacas guys expected tips, they certainly didn't get any from us! Anyone selling sunglasses or whatever were not encouraged into our direction.... I think it was just taxis bars restaurants....???

Penny!, I can't believe it! You DIDN'T tip the Hamacas boy?:eek . Oh my God! That is social suicide in beach culture! This my dear is the "guy" who can make or break your ranking amongst other beach users on his stretch of the beach. A simple 10% tip ensures next time you will be shown to La Creme de la Creme of Hamacas, your every need looked after and the security of your property his priority. not to mention the total respect of the poor bathers not in the "Know".
Penny this was a major slip up! and one I hope you never make again in a hurry.

Linzzz & Others beware.

We had a 16 year old who was sent down with towels with me directing from the balcony to pick the perfect spot.. just think of those 10%s of 17 euros most days we saved, enough for that early evening snifter, much more important!!

Ah. They were your union jack flag towels then Penny shame on you letting a 16 year old who mad on sport do you dirty work trust you tipped him well, I expect hubby was watching rugby.

I can't believe this!, 2 euros a day and they call Scots tight!.
:rollin :rollin :rollin

my god Penny, I have a son who is almost 16 and I
think he'd rather pay it out of his hard earned money cutting the grass than have his mum show him up on the beach.
All to save a few euros- i couldn't do that to him.

Snowy,

Union FLAG, the jack is the little post on the blunt end of the boat it hangs on.
