What was the highlight of your holiday?

The smell as you walk out of the airport - feels like coming home!

I know exactly what you mean Eleanor! It was the thing we remember about the first time we went to Mallorca in 1971! Its like a mixture of pine needles and heat and instantly tells you that you've arrived and thats when I start to get giddy!

Arriving at Palma airport and feeling immediately relaxed the minute I walked off the plane. The feeling of excitement on the coach from the airport. Arriving at our hotel where all the staff know us and make us feel immediately welcome. Dropping off our cases and going to Pepe's for lunch, chatting with Pepe and feeling like we have never been away. Just always feel like I am at home.

Sorry forgot to add that one of the highlights for us was see Mariano Miranda playing his guitar outside the Daina. Me and hubby could sit for hours and just watch and listen to him. Always hope to see him every time we are in PP.

What was the Highlight of your holiday

The first glimpse of the lovely bay is always a highlight. Then there is walking down Pine Walk, stopping off at the Joker and greeting the staff that we know well. Recently it has been lovely to meet up with Josep in his new restaurant. Just eating out in the lovely warm evenings and sharing a drink with our 2 sons, who still enjoy being in PP with their Mum & Dad, even though they're 18 and 19 now!

It's interesting reading all these replys and, even though the post is " what was the highlight of your holiday", nearly every one refers to habitual occurences which speaks volumes about the number of people who continue to come time and time again!

I have to agree with Belladonna that the sight of the backdrop of the mountains as you leave the airport just says welcome back, relax, chill

The highlight of my 2005 hol in PP was going on the Tudor Dawn. Sailing on the bay at sunset was just magical. The free beer helped too.
2008? Meeting up with Jose at Bony's again, with him instantly making us feel welcome. Its all the kids talked about, and they are teenagers.
I agree with easylife about the top of the steps. The view is brill, and THERE IS A BAR UP THERE!!

Puig de Maria

After 29 years of looking at Puig de Maria, this year we finally made the assent! An over night thunder storm cooled things down and lingering dawn clouds made it the ideal time to visit the monastery and its refectory for breakfast at the summit. Maybe we were just ready for a good drink after the climb but it seemed like the best cup of coffee we had for the whole of the holiday. Croissants hadn’t arrived yet (that’s how early we were) so more huge portions of Almond cake were substituted instead and dare I say even better than Celler La Parra!

Suitably refreshed, we took time to take in the tranquillity of the place and the spectacular views of the Formentor peninsular and the Port, Tramuntana Mountains and Pollensa far below looking like a satellite mapping image from the internet. Eventually we made a leisurely descent from the peak and made our way to Pollensa to browse some of the beautiful shops there. It is so pleasant to meander around in the cool of the narrow streets in the peace and quite of a non market day, ending up in Placa Major for a large tapas lunch and San Miguel before taking the bus back to the port.

Its certainly worth the treck up for the views! We struggled ourselves, only to be passed by locals taking up their portable BBQ's and carrying kids!!
I wholeheartedly agree about the almond cake in the rustic coffee shop. May well have to give it another go - if its cool enough!

I have loved all your vivid posts, so many that resonate with my own lovely times!..

One special moment for me Irecall was my son and I walking off the tee, arms round one another's shoulders, after spanking 2 great drives at one of Alcanada's ocean-facing holes... this was a year after my old golf buddy (father in law) passed away. My son had told me it's what his Grandad would have wanted and who was I to argue... a mere 3 years later and the 'wee man' hits the ball further than I do!

My highlight has to be the debate I had with myself in whether we could afford to go away this year, my good and clever side winning of course and then the nerves of booking everthing separate for the 1st time (have only ever done package holidays)! Those nerves lasted (daily) until we actually arrived at the apartment; It reminded me of the 1st time I met someone I really took a fancy to and the butterflies in the stomach anticipating what would happen when I approached her Then the feeling of getting collected from the apartment and brought to the airport for our return home, and the sorrow felt on leaving (sorrow still being felt at the moment - home 2 weeks). I guess PP is a beautiful old girl and a place which is held deep in the heart. Cant wait to next visit and to feel all the nerves again.

Well the highlight, other than meeting up with Sparky again was our annual trip up Puig Maria, once again a beautiful way to spend a morning, great views and peace and quiet at the top.
