Los pescadores capturan más de 10 toneladas de jonquillo en un mes - Diario de Mallorca
Pep Córcoles Mallorca fishermen have managed to capture 10,519 kilos of goby (Aphia minuta) in the first month of this year's campaign. Professionals now breathe relieved after the bad situation we came to be by bureaucratic delays that caused that, even today, is not officially authorized fishing for this species.
The lack of approval of the management plan prompted the campaign could begin on 10 December, as usual. The fishermen were stranded until the precarious economic situation suffering forced them to go fishing without permission on 30 January.
Antoni Garau, secretary of the Federation of Fishing Brotherhoods argues that "there have been good fishing days during the February ". Indeed, the average fish auctioned in the auction is 800 kilos daily.
Quotas
should be noted that there were 44 boats to participate in the campaign and that the average of many of them is 30 kilos per day between jonquillo, caboti and mix. The caboti (Pseudaphya ferreri) is a species like the goby, but lower quality cuisine. Sometimes joining the two species and to be captured to be sold under the name of mixture.
The boats have set a maximum quota of 30 kilos per day and boat jonquillo and caboti 40 kilos per day and boat. This restriction is a measure to prevent the fishery be fleeced.
But there is still another important measure as it applies a quota minimal medium located in the 20 kilos per day. If fishermen do not meet that quota will be lowered next season the maximum attendance by the evaluation committee.
Garau explains that "the fact that the vast majority of days the boats achieve cover the maximum number means that the fishery is in very good condition, or that there is a lot of fish, so to speak." The representative stated that "it is very good for the industry because it indicates that at least next year we will be allowed the same quota this year."
High demand
Another of circumstances favorable to the economic improvement of income for fishermen is that there is a lot of demand from consumers. With all the problems we have had this year fishermen, and the bad economic situation in which they found, had generated great expectations and a growing demand for jonquillo.
Mateu Cabot, president of the merchants association Inca Market, explains that "the buyers were very sensitive to the fishermen through the bad news came out. Regarding Mallorcan put on sale jonquillo rushed to buy". Cabot explains that "in addition to its undeniable gastronomic qualities, there has been a lot of solidarity on the part of consumers. Many hidden and not buy jonquillo asked to help the industry."
The campaign will continue throughout this month yet and will end on April 30 to make way for red lobster season.
