What a great idea. If they start this I fully recommend you get out there even if your not into fishing. its a great opportunity to see our wonderful bay and surrounding area like you have never seen it before plus soak up some local culture. And if you thought PP was beautiful before wait till you spend a day or half a day admiring it from the water.( its breath taking in parts trust me) With the added bonus of being in the company of a local fisherman whose knowledge I am sure will keep you entertained for hours :)

Thats great news. I have looked into fishing excursions before, but anything I have found has been very expensive. Hopefully this will bring the costs down!

Palma.—Spanish airport authority AENAyesterday announced that it is going to introduce a charge for using luggage trolleys at the country’s seven busiest airports which includes Palma.
AENA intends to charge a euro per trolley in a bid to raise around 3.2 million euros per year.
A date has not been set for when the charge is going to be introduced but it is expected to be in place before the summer season gets under way.
However, AENA said yesterday that trolleys for departing traveller will continue to be free, only those arriving will be charged the fee which AENA has stressed is far lower than those at airports in the UK, for example.
Here we go again!!!!! Is there no end to ways that visitors have to Pay!!!!. Next thing will be a charge to board the bus from the plane to take you to the terminal. Oh and by the way I have never had to pay for a trolley at Glasgow airport!!!!!

Maybe this is not exactly in the news yet but i read on Andrews blog that as the MDB is 50 years old this year and to mark this they are going to issue a special supplement in May with a feature about 50 yrs of tourism, so Andrew is looking for people to send in their stories, memories and photos (if you like) :D.
If any of you are interested Andrew's article and the contact details are here :- alcudiapollensa.

Thanks for posting this, Lyn. Yes, if anyone would like to share any memories, it would be great to hear from you. It can be about anything. Ideally, someone will come up with some recollections of how things were in 1963 (or near enough). My earliest memories go back to 1969 (Arenal) and they are somewhat hazy.

In today's DDM La ordenanza de mercados sancionará la mala higiene de vendedores y puestos - Diario de Mallorca.

The markets ordinance penalizes the poor hygiene of vendors and stalls.
A new by-law regulating street trading Alcúdia Township includes economic sanctions for those who breach sellers higiénicosanitarias conditions specified in the regulations and that summons the stalls holders to "take care of their own personal hygiene" and keep stands in good health conditions. The ordinance, approved definitively by the council 'alcudienc' and in force since March 7, when was published in the Official Gazette, established as a serious breach of the rules breach higiénicosanitarias, so that offenders would face to fines ranging from 150 to 1,200 euros.

In addition, the legislation requires sellers of fruits and vegetables to "work clothes" and bring a white coat or blue in the case of the sale of horticultural products. At the end of the day, traders are required to remove the waste generated in their respective activity stalls with the means to provide the City Council.

The ordinance generally prohibits the sale of certain foods such as meat, fish and seafood, certified milk and pasteurized cheese, cottage cheese, cream, yogurt and other fresh dairy products, pastries filled and decorated, baked goods or articles of smoked , among others. These items will only be allowed in street markets where the competent authorities consider that the seller in question has adequate facilities for sale.

The sale of imitation products of any brand also is totally prohibited.

Selection criteria
The new ordinance sets a limited duration of authorizations for sale, which shall not exceed one year and may be extended only to "authorize the holder to repayment of investments directly related to the activity."

When selling a license, the municipality of Alcúdia assess various requirements such as experience, facility availability removable tenure of professional street vendor license, the number of dependents of the applicant or be free of administrative sanctions. The difficulties in accessing the labor market also scored and people with some degree of disability have priority.

The obligations of sellers cited "use of good language and good behavior among them, the public and municipal representatives," among other criteria.

In the first case, markets are set Alcúdia, which will be held on Tuesdays and Sundays, the port of Alcudia, every Friday, and summer night market, which will be held Thursday through Saturday at the Boardwalk port.

In the second case, the by-law allows the activity every day from May to September.

Shouldn't this be on the Alcudia forum, or are you suggesting it may come to PP?

Not everyone who uses this site lives in PP, we live near Alcudia so this is of interest to us

That's fine everyone on the site's equal wherever they live and long may it be so:)

Also a lot of Puerto Pollensa tourists visit Alcudia market as it is usually larger than the local one
