Your Christmassy thoughts would be appreciated

Hello Everyone
I have done a search for 'Christmas' and couldn't find the help I needed. So I think I am ok in asking this question.

I have just found really cheap flights for 19-26 December. We usually either stay at home for Christmas or take our two children to Centerparcs (which costs more than the cost of flights plus a villa!!).

I would be really glad of some advice. My husband and I would much rather go to PP for the Christmas period but the children obviously need the whole santa/Xmas tree thing (they are only 9 and 7).

Can you tell me what Christmas would be like as a holidaymaker in PP/Pollensa? Are there Christmas lights anywhere? Does Santa appear anywhere? Does it feel festive?

We have the possibility of booking a villa where we have previously stayed and the owner has already said that she would decorate the villa itself and make it all Christmassy. But I am just wondering what the atmosphere is like when you go out and about.

We love the idea of having Xmas in PP with maybe a brisk walk by the sea etc and the possibility of popping into the local eateries/bars that stay open for the winter. But our priority has to be that the children still feel Christmassy (obviously there wont be snow etc).

Does anyone have any thoughts/views/experiences on Xmas with children in PP.

I think you will find that its more in January that the Mallorcans celebrate, with the 5th-7th with the parade of the 3 Kings and a celebration in the square, then 16th - 17th Jan as the St Antoni celebration with the log climbing. I personally have not been over during the actual Christmas time, but I'm sure those who have will respond with what its like then.
I have seen the father christmas's hanging from windows though!

Pollensa town square was decorated and the side streets around had fairy lights, but Puerto Pollensa only had a few santas hanging from peoples balconies. We arrived 27th December and had a brilliant time but went as adults only, did see one family playing on the beach New Years day but apart from that most of the children appeared to be locals. The villa we stayed in had a few decorations to make it more christmassy and we had an open fire as well as heating which made the villa seem really cosy.

Sorry romanb but there were some lights in PP. OK they were not even close to Regent Street or any big city display, but they were there. As it was our first Christmas here, i actually found it very refreshing not to have the UK commercial hype.
The children here have their main presents on "Kings" which is a joy to witness.

My personal opinion is great for adults but not for children.

Palma is very nice at Christmas if any adults fancy a short break.

Sorry Sparky, I must admit as we were staying in Pollensa town did not venture into the Port at night but did not see anything during the day that looked like decorations obviously not looking properly.

Hi Hannah,

We are taking two children age 9 and 11. However, we are having Christmas day at home and going on Boxing day. We are staying in Pollensa.

We plan to do some walking and get away from the UK hype. Our children are looking forward to something different!
I feel that children get enough Christmas festivity stuff in the month leading up to it, will be nice to relax and do our own thing without being tied to the Wii!

Lets hope I'm right!
