There are 5 unhatched eggs at the Lindheim webcam - the stork is examining them and rearranging them - seems a long time since she laid them:(

I must take a look at this one. Thank you.

Just been watching the Hochstadt mum stork feeding the chicks -but one of them is just so tiny at the side of the others and didnt seem to get a look in at feeding time. :(

This is the part I don’t like very much. I know it’s nature and survival of the fittest...but it’s soooo cruel :(

Very cruel, but necessary in times when there isn't enough food for all the chicks.

I'm the same Debz - I don't watch wild life programmes as I know it will end up with something eating something else - and of course I know it happens and that it has to happen - I just don't really want to watch it.:(

Crikey it a windy old day in Roettenbach  The nest is swaying to and fro as poor Mrs Stork is trying to do her housework. Every time she tries to rearrange the twigs they blow up again and she has to start again. Could only spot 4 babies, but they are all huddled together, so hope the 5th one is ok.

I wasn't sure this morning either, whether there was 4 or 5 heads in the baby huddle. They sure grow up quick.

Apparently another reason for the discrepancy in the size of the chicks is that, unlike other birds, storks start hatching as soon as the first egg is laid.

And as per the Q&A on the Roettenbach site, I's the mast with the camera that wobbles.
(Google Translate: "you actually succumb to an optical illusion when looking at the screen. In a strong wind, it is not the chimney with the nest but the mast with the camera that wobbles.")

Thank goodness for that. I was feeling a bit sea sick yesterday when I was watching!

Thank goodness for that. I was beginning to think the chimney was about to topple over  I know they must be used to all weathers but the pair did look mightily fed up the other night. Soaking wet and very bedraggled but she was sitting tight on those babies keeping them nice and warm.

Could only spot 4 hungry beaks this morning at feeding time. 3 bigger chicks and 1 slightly smaller one. Fingers crossed for plenty of food supply, for them all to grow up.

Have just been watching Roettenbach nest and definitely 5 but the small one isn't getting it's share of the food :(.

There's always one isn't there - so sad but nature's selection of the fittest:(

Was feeling a bit flat this morning until I viewed the stork webcams.
Rottenbach:
5 fluffy babies seem quite active this morning. One is a bit smaller but seemed lively enough.
Hochstadt:
One heap of fluffy babies but one got up to try a few steps!
Lindheim:
Just caught a glimpse of balls of fluffy before mum/dad snuggling over them.

Isn't nature sometimes wonderful...

Brilliant views in Roettenbach, with the sun being out and the 5 chicks being fed. The little one is cute and he has no problem stretching his neck to look for his share.
The difference in size of the chicks is quite astonishing.

Yes - it's so good to see them enjoying a bit of sunshine - they all looked so miserable the other day in the rain. I was wondering if there was a problem at Lindheim as she seems to have been 'hatching' for ages but at last there they are and looks like another egg to hatch. Just been looking at the Hochstadt family and the chicks are just so lively and testing their wings - at one point I thought one of them was going to fall out of the nest!

What a wee shame. I think Rosie is right as when I viewed them this morning one was definitely being quite bold trying to take a few steps.
