There are 5 unhatched eggs at the Lindheim webcam - the stork is examining them and rearranging them - seems a long time since she laid them

Just been watching the Hochstadt mum stork feeding the chicks -but one of them is just so tiny at the side of the others and didnt seem to get a look in at feeding time.![]()
This is the part I don’t like very much. I know it’s nature and survival of the fittest...but it’s soooo cruel![]()

Crikey it a windy old day in RoettenbachThe nest is swaying to and fro as poor Mrs Stork is trying to do her housework. Every time she tries to rearrange the twigs they blow up again and she has to start again. Could only spot 4 babies, but they are all huddled together, so hope the 5th one is ok.
I wasn't sure this morning either, whether there was 4 or 5 heads in the baby huddle. They sure grow up quick.
Apparently another reason for the discrepancy in the size of the chicks is that, unlike other birds, storks start hatching as soon as the first egg is laid.
And as per the Q&A on the Roettenbach site, I's the mast with the camera that wobbles.
(Google Translate: "you actually succumb to an optical illusion when looking at the screen. In a strong wind, it is not the chimney with the nest but the mast with the camera that wobbles.")

Have just been watching Roettenbach nest and definitely 5 but the small one isn't getting it's share of the food.
Hochstadt has lost one sadly.
What a wee shame. I think Rosie is right as when I viewed them this morning one was definitely being quite bold trying to take a few steps.
Oh that's sad - they all looked so sprightly this morning - testing their wings etc![]()
