Website update?

  • Thread starter Thread starter Kingsley
  • Start date Start date
I have noticed recently a few comments recently dotted over the forum requesting (please) an update regarding a start date for the new improved website. I realise the comments might have been missed so thought I’d put a note here. Any update is appreciated.

I wish PPToni would respond to the requests, she has been online but has not posted anything. Very disappointed .

That’s very mild, Sparky. Sadly, there does seem to be a pattern here. It’s a shame when good things seem to fall into the wrong hands.

We haven't updated you all on progress and we really should have.

People have given a lot to this forum so it's completely understandable that questions are asked and we will always be honest with our answers.

We mentioned previously that our personal circumstances have been challenging and this has been ongoing for the past few years. Not financially challenging, we're fortunate in this regard, but in virtually every other aspect, we've taken a beating.

The building issues we have faced have been ridiculous, worse than people realise. We can't write about that in detail yet but we hope to at some point. It hasn't been a good time for us.

Dealing with the situation has been a full time job that we neither wanted or predicted and it is still ongoing.

Finally, on Christmas eve night we moved into our new (unfinished) house because we promised ourselves that no matter what, we'd be in by Christmas. There is still a huge amount of work to do but we are happy to be moving forward.

Following a very unusual Christmas we have taken time to decompress. We saw the forum posts but given the situation we couldn't respond straight away. Our silence is not through lack of interest, far from it. It is the circumstances we are dealing with.

We have not given you an update as we were waiting for something decent to say. We have been working on the website with the design company and progress is being made.

For transparency now we would like you to see some of the work and we will add some images on the Google drive link below. However we cannot link to the full website design for copyright reasons.

The following is the current situation with the whole development:

The design concept was completed and the website development more or less finished ready for real content to be added.

We asked the design company owner to improve the logo because it wasn't as good as the rest of the design. He agreed to do this once the development was completed.

Their lead designer came back from maternity leave. She saw our note about improving the logo and changed the whole website brand in its entirety without our instruction. It was changed to something really bright and brash that we dislike (see link). We were not happy to use it so we had to ask them to change it again.

Just before Christmas they sent us a new branding design using a wave format (see link) which is much nicer but we have asked them to have another look after the Three King's fiesta because we didn't want to accept something that was hurried together simply to fix the communication error.

So that is how things stand, it is being worked on and hopefully soon it will be finished. Here is the link with some design elements:

We haven't given this kind of update before because naturally you always hope that things will be finished. You don't want to share the bad stuff.

We understand that it is frustrating but it is important we get this right. It's not a small project and given the huge significance Puerto Pollensa has to all of us, there's a lot of pressure to do a good job.

At last a response, but not really very hopeful of things changing soon. Maybe time to call it a day :(:(.

Hopefully you will stick with it Sparky, if I remember correctly even in the days when Zelda owned PP.com she needed you and others for the forum.
Thanks for all your work, Best Wishes John.

Working with Zelda was easy, she always kept me informed, i am afraid Toni does not. It is so frustrating :(.

I just had a look at the new web site and couldn't see any indication that there was a forum....what's the plan Toni?

It seems to me that when the site is run by someone who, by their own admission, has endured difficult personal circumstances for a number of years, the motivation to give priority to this forum simply isn’t there, something clearly demonstrated by the lack of progress and feedback we have all sadly experienced.

Unless, and until, this site is updated I’m sad to say that I shall no longer participate.

Lyn, you’ve done an absolutely fabulous job over many years which has been appreciated by many, many people. It has been a pleasure know you and Colin and I can only thank you for all your hard work, largely unacknowledged by the present site owners.

Bye for now.

And she's just given the reason why she can't

For goodness sake, given the well documented problems with her house she should be given a break.

With respect hoopy, i and members who contribute regularly have every right to feel frustrated when they feel their concerns are not being addressed in a timely fashion.

Yes but perhaps do this privately? The lady has given very valid reasons why she hasn't been responding.

A bit of understanding wouldn't go amiss. "Maybe time to call it a day" was poor IMO.

That comment was how i feel for myself, not for Toni.

Well, having had an insight into the new web site, there isn't going to be a forum anyway, so this (chat) is all going to end soon (ish) anyway.

I'm not sure why you say this as we have told everybody previously that there will still be a forum and there will be.

If you saw the website via the links we sent in the previous message then you won't have seen very much as they are literally just design images with non of the functionality on there.
Also the forum is designed completely separately with completely different software to the website.
And it has to be done last, as the website design needs to be in place for the forum software to then fit on to it.

It is definitely going to continue though and all of the information and conversations will be transferred over. I can't say it will be seamless as obviously it will be a much more modern system, but hopefully it won't be too painful.

Thanks.
Toni

Sorry, but must disagree

To be fair Toni, that web site could have been created in a couple of hours, so it really bears no resemblance to the one we are currently using. I think you need to set some deadlines with your web site developers, as its getting a bit silly now.

Hoppy I think in the main people have shown understanding and are sympathetic. But even if just the ability for new people to join had been resolved, things might have been improved. From what I gather there have been no new members for at least a year, maybe even longer. Therefore there are few new comments. New members would probably bring new questions and reviews etc and present members have opportunity to share knowledge. Currently the forum feels like it is quietly coming to a complete standstill. I guess we all see it differently

Personally (and I’m not at all technical/computer literate) I think that there’s not much wrong with the website as it is. When you Google ‘Puerto Pollensa’ the first hit is puertopollensa.com, so it’s in pole position already, and anyone thinking of visiting PP for the first time is directed to this site. The list of sections in the left hand column is pretty comprehensive, but my criticism is that the information therein is largely out of date (eg taxi rates, bus times are 8 years out of date). Someone needs to go through ALL that and update the whole lot. Whether you put a new/fancy ‘Header’ on the site is of no importance - what people want is accurate and upto date information (and of course, a place to exchange views, etc). Maybe I’m being very simple and missing the whole point, but that’s my opinion … over and out
