Thanks for that. Interesting, they're effectively sticking a private freeview receiver in a rack and streaming the content direct to you. It's simple enough to set up yourself if you have somewhere to host a small pc, and with only 1.2meg upload wouldn't cost too much in bandwidth. Be interesting to see how this is legally different to re streamers like filmon.

I am surprised that's legal really , sure we will find out eventually.

As you say its fairly easy to DIY from home in UK with a Humax T2 and custom firmware and a decent router that allows VPN access ( for recordings only as not seen how to get live streaming yet from a humax T2)

We get all channels and for some reason Channel 5 after midnight

It's a little too early to tell the outcome isn't it? I thought it would be nearer the end of October that loss of channels would be known?

You are right Eleanor.
All we know at the moment is that the new sattelite which is expected to take over the main BBC & ITV channels has launched successfully and is exactly the same as the one launched last year which took over the transmission of Channel 5. Untill it actually happens everything else is educated speculation.

You will have to explain that one two me. As far as I know card share is a way of allowing a number of users to share a pay tv subscription by downloading the signal from the dish onto the internet from where a number of people can receive and decode it. I can´t really see how it is relevant to the problem here in that we expect the dishes here to stop working. Or are you thinking of downloading the signal in the UK and transferring it here via a slingbox?

im referring to card share for sky viewing. you would prob need a 2.5 mt dish to pick up the sky signal I don't know. does anyone receive sky in pp?

Yes we do but it is this that may be in jeopardy with the siting of the new satellite. We are all playing a waiting game.

Loss of ITV channels

Has anyone else lost all the ITV channels recently in the Puerto Pollensa area please? All the other channels seem fine. If you know anything about this please let me know.

Hi PGB as you will see i have moved your post into this thread, if you read back you will see that it is all due to a new satellite being launched .

You may just need to re tune your set as the ITV channels are not thought to be affected by the new satellite. The wind does interfere with all channels. We are still getting ITV London and regional channel.

Like a lot of people within the port we lost channel 5 ect over the last 9 months from our freesat receiver box ( Humax )

A couple of weeks ago I visited the Milar electrical shop in the port and explained the problem and we arranged a date for them to come around and re-adjust the alignment of the satellite dish ( 1.2 M ) with a special meter they use.

Within 30 minutes we had the majority of the channels back but unfortunately - still missing channel five and a few others. The guy from Milar ordered a new and more powerful LNB and fitted it onto the dish and I'm very pleased to say we are now able to receive every channel on freesat plus all the HD choices as well.

According to Beyond Technology's status on Facebook, Yesterday:

SKY UPDATE !
Astra 2F has just about arrived at its permanent orbital position at 28.2ºE. There will now be a short period of testing and the channels currently on the Astra 1N will migrate to the 2F over 3 days commencing 23 November. If it's right, all those channels will be transmitting from the 2F from 26 November. We should then begin to get reception reports from Mallorca and we will find out whether we can still watch the football and our soaps next summer!

So its a bit early to have lost channels (except for channel 5 family)

Appears to be a bit of confusion here. I think the the Sky report quoted is over a year old. Astra 2F was launched on Sept 28 2012, It went into operation on 23rd November 2012 and the Channel 5 stations were then moved from Astra 1N.
Astra 2E was launched on Sept 30th 2013. If the schedule is the same then we expect it to go live during the last week in November. Only then will we know what problems it causes us here.

Possible good news for Christmas !
The new satellite 2E is still orbiting at 32 degrees east. This means it has not yet completed its testing process. When complete it will be moved to its permanent location at 28.2 degrees east when it will then take over the transmission of the channels presently on satellite IN (most UK channels) and like Ch5 these are then expected to disappear. This move to 28.2 degrees east will take between 10-14 days. The good news is that as Sky do not allow any changes within 14 days of Christmas then it is hoped that the change over from 1N to 2E will now happen post Christmas.
