For your information to all forum members, if you book a car through "Travel Republic for say 7th June, here are the following rates for one week,

Peugeot 107 £94
Fiat 500 £95
Ford Fiesta £98

Prices for all other cars go up to as far as £300

As well as my last message, Travel Supermarket prices start at £88 per week. If Forum members book their car individually from their holiday, then it can be a great saving !!!

Those are very good prices but I wonder if they include the often compulsory full tank of fuel cost and the additional insurance.

It's also useful to know if the car hire company has a desk in the airport or nearby - or even quite a distance away - as these are all factors which help you make your mind up as to which hire car company to choose.

Hi Lorenzo, All the pickups are at the airport , with the exception of Centaura, which is 5 minutes away. A courtesy bus takes you there from the airport. all the major car hire companies are included, funnily enough including Avis. Check the website for Travel Supermarket and Travel Republic for full details. A full tank of petrol has always been the case in my experience. They do ask you for more insurance, but its up to you if you wish to take it.

I just took a look at the Terms and Conditions for the £94 Peugeot 107 quote on Travel Republic.

Sadly, these are just the type of tactic that leave customers with a feeling that they have been mugged-off, as the prices they quote, will never be the total per day that you pay.

On the Peugeot deal, you have to pay extra for fuel, insurance and additional drivers.

Fuel Policy

Pick up full, return empty. Applicable to rentals of minimum 4 days. Your vehicle will be supplied with a full tank of fuel and can be returned empty. On pickup the rental agent will charge you for a full tank of fuel. The price per litre charged by the rental agent may be higher than the price at the local service station. No refund for unused fuel.

Looking at the Terms and Conditions, on any hire 4 days or over, you have to buy a full tank of fuel upon arrival. This will be at the premium rate, usually significantly above the pump price. There are no refunds for unused fuel.

More frustratingly, the amount that you have to pay is not specified - It could be anything.

Going back and forth to the airport, and having a day out, and a few local trips around the area, you will probably struggle to use even half a tank in such an economical car.

Credit card

ACCEPTED: MasterCard, Visa. A deposit amount of 500 EUR will be held against your card(s) for the period of the booking. Credit card(s) must be in the name of the main driver.

The quote says that there is a zero excess, but you still have to leave a 500 EUR deposit. That says to me that there is still an excess that you will be liable for.

Additional Driver (Can be booked on arrival)

Maximum additional drivers 3. 4.45 EUR per Day Maximum 49.9 EUR

Additional drivers are also not included. They are an additional 4.45 EUR per day. So an additional 31.15 EUR for one additional driver for seven days.

So the actual price is £94 + Unknown Cost of a full tank of fuel at premium rate + 31.15 EUR Addtional Driver Charges + A possible additional CDW to take the excess from 500 EUR to Nil.

Guessing that the tank of fuel may be 80 EUR, the total transaction is going to be around £180.

The weekly rate for the same car at SIXT is currently £168, with a zero excess, addiitonal driver included and full to full on fuel.

Basically, I suspect that Travel Republic prices will be just the same as, or potentially more expensive than a premium quality operator like Sixt. Either way, the headline pricing looks appealing, but it is just too full of unknowns for my liking.

Up to 2012 , I never had any problem, so they must have changed somewhat. Sixt is one of the companies used by Travel Republic. Most times I have had a full tank as part of the price, returning the vehicle with a full tank.
Certainly I would not be paying £605 for a fortnight !!!!!
