Was gutted by the news. If it was Britain the National Trust would slap a preservation order on the place. That ceiling must be the best example of OTT plasterwork in Europe, if not the world! Love it! September will be emotional.

i'm beginning to hate change

Folks, Re The Romantic. Just to be clear, I only had confirmation about the Ancla Going, the Romantic was mentioned by someone else.

Stayed there for the last two weeks and the manager assured us it is not shutting down and they have allready taken bookings for next year,and they are beink refurbished.

Sorry to go off topic, but I dread to think what mental image people have built up of me with some of the references made to me by my other half ( Pollensafan). I wouldn't mind, but he's not exactly George Clooney, More like George Roper ( Re George and Mildred ). One for the older ones amongst us .

Hi I do not use the forum a great lot,but I do read the comments. Sad to hear about EL ANCLA. My wife and I spent many happy times with Mike and CAROL in there.I did make a comment a few months ago about leaving a resort and its old buildings alone.If it aint broke don`t fix it. Slowly but surely PP WILL be changed to be a clone of some of those resorts in the south of the island and lose its unique identity. I hope there is someone in authority with a loud voice and plenty of clout. However nothing stays the same,but many places do not change for the better. MAJORCA VETERAN

Just to give folks a flavour of how unique this place was. One lunchtime in September there was app- 12 Swedish folk on one table. All of a sudden they got up and started singing " maybe its because I'm a Londoner " And "singing in the rain ", but it was in Swedish. Then a group of French folk sang a couple of French songs. Then out from the bar came a guitar which was put in my hands and the group of brits then broke into a chorus of " We're all going on a summer holiday ", at which point and I kid you not , a red double decker bus pulled up outside. Then as quickly as it had begun it all went quite and folk carried on as if nothing had happened. Priceless !!

It was A Shame the Swedish People had to go home the next day....

Does any one know if work has srarted on El ancla yet,or how the family are and rocky of course,still cant believe its being knocked down.

As of a few days ago, nothing had started. Rocky has been offered a job back in the beach bar, but he was also pondering taking on his own bar. The family are ok, but as you can imagine its early days. Leo's wife may be cooking in the golden lion next season, but Its not been confirmed .
