I have read many posts on the Forum about car hire and have looked at several adverts on the site.
We haven't been since Autumn 2008 and I can see that prices and insurance excesses and exclusions seem to have risen.
I can see that the topic is an "old chestnut" and that hiring from the "wrong" company has caused problems for some people.
We just need a car from the small car range for one week in October.
One Company apply a 600 euros excess for damage to undercarriage, tyres, wheels and windscreen unless you take out their Super Excess Waiver at 9.5 euros a day ( for a small car.)
If you don't take out the cover they want to swipe the credit card to cover the excess in case of damage.
I appreciate it's a tall order but does any hire company provide car hire with pick up at the airport at a reasonable price with no hidden extras when you get there and with straightforward all inclusive insurance cover with no excesses or reasonable excesses.

Based on our experience, we have used Terrys a few time recently as it was very convenient & the price was good at the time. They don't charge for extra insurance so I bought the annual insurance - see Discount Car Hire - Mallorca - Majorca - Palma Airport. However for our next trip Record, whom we have used in the past, were much cheaper as Terrys had no small cars left. You also get loyalty points to use as a discount. We will have to leave a Credit Card swipe as I won't be buying their insurance now that we have the Annual Insurance.

We have occasionally used some of the booking sites but only if we know that the supplier is on site.

Thanks pollensa :)
Will get a quote from Terry's and also take a look at Record.
Regards,
Keith

Have a look at Autos Roig - I am sure they are all inclusive and fairly hassle free collect and drop - bit more expensive mind.

Hi GG,
The company with the 600 euros excess or pay 9.50 euros per day for super excess waiver is in fact Autos Roig.
Things must have changed since last we hired from them because we have hired from them half a dozen times in the last ten years and found them to be very good ( but not cheap but you get what you pay for ) - the last time being 3 or 4 years ago - each time it was a very good quality car with hassle free pick up and drop off at the airport and an inclusive insurance.

Thanks Kezza66 - as you say, things must have changed. 9.50 euros is steep for the extra daily insurance rate:eek:

Won't be looking to use Roig again then!

Got back on Saturday from our one week's holiday.
We decided to stick with Autos Roig whom we have used several times over the years.
Collected our baggage, went to the Autos Roig desk on the 4th floor of the car park, no queuing ( but it is not height of season ), completed the paperwork and picked up the car from the adjacent car park on the 4th Floor and went on our way - Very smooth pick up.
The car was low mileage and in very good condition.
For peace of mind we decided to mtake out the Super Excess Insurance cover at 9.5 € per day rather than be saddled with a large excess in case of an accident = not that wev have ever had any - touch wood.

Have used Bravo Car Hire a couple of times and have had no problems, they let you choose actual hire company. I have picked Goldcar which has low excess and this can be refused if you take policy with - carhire-excess-insurance.com before you go for £1.90/day

The one to avoid either in or out of season is Record because they always have a que, up to 4 hours at peak times.
