Remember that you will need to book your table and i think they only do 2 sittings in the evenings, well they did last year ;).

I wonder if the reviews re service are the same as 'Trip Advisor' which they probably read, or if, because they are full every night, are not at all bothered!

If you're in the old town and need a pizza fix, both Scacco Matte and Il Trencadora have proper wood-burning pizza ovens and do really excellent pizza (miles better than Little Italy - we've only eaten there a couple of times and found it very underwhelming).

Will deffo book a table , cheers Sparky.
Might have a visit to the Old town Kate ,thanks for the recommendations.

Over the last 10 years or so, we've been at Little Italy a number of times - the reason we stopped going was the service. Food was fine, can't fault the pizza, but the last time we were in the staff really gave the impression they just couldn't be bothered. We'd a table with two families and two sets of grand parents, orders were messed up and to be honest no one really seemed to care because all attention seemed to be focused on a massive table just outside on the Pine Walk. It is a fantastic location and on other visits the staff were great, BUT, it's a holiday and no-one wants hit or miss. We would far rather pay a bit more in Laroc and enjoy friendly staff and better food. At the end of the day, LI is a very busy place, so must be doing something right, but it just isn't for us.

Me thinks the latter
The location gives them licence to act as they please sad but true IMO

The couple of times that we have visited the staff have been more interest in talking to their friend rather than serving and have been abrupt. The Pizzas are ok but nothing special so we will give it a miss this year.

I agree, we've been twice over the years, and not gone back for that reason, poor staff attitude and service.

I really don't get the negativity about the staff at Little Italy. We are talking about one of the busiest restaurants in the Port and these guys are on the go all day with just short breaks. Another thing which should be taken into consideration is that it's not a fine dining restaurant with silver service. It's a beach side eaterie that serves great pizzas and pastas. Simple as that. I think it's a bit harsh to expect niceties when they are rushed off their feet (I've personally never seen them standing around chatting) And the waiting for food issue is always a moot point as some people always seem to be in a rush to get in and out whereas others happy to sit and look at the view!

Sorry but politeness and care and attention to the paying customers is basic in a restaurant. I know they get really busy but they know it also, maybe if the staff were rotated to give them a break things would be better. Do love the setting, but is it worth it?

sorry but its not about how hard they work or how busy they are. All the Restaurants in the Port have the same schedule. the staff have a bad attitude. I and members of my family and friends have all experienced this. As have many on here it would seem. IMO if they were any place apart from that location which lets be honest is a licence to print money specially since Katys closed they would have closed yeas ago. a smile and a friendly greeting to ALL cost nothing.

I agree 100% and so does the Boss.

Well this thread just goes to show how differing all of our experiences are.

We are happy to say that we have never had a bad meal in Little Italy - and have never experienced poor or rude service from any of the staff. :) In fact, the fresh turbot we had there in April was probably one of the best fish dishes we have ever had in the port and that is saying something!

We were lucky enough to be shown the kitchen area earlier on this year and it was immaculate. We saw some of the fresh ravioli being made by their Chef Valentino too. Nothing out of a packet!

Much as we loved Katy's Bar and knew her well - as did many other regulars - sadly you could not say the same about the kitchen there!

I agree with how particular they are with the bar and the kitchen. The guys are always looking forward on how to improve the restaurant and spent time and effort during the winter months preparing for the season. The owners care a lot about their business and are serious about how it is viewed. Maybe a good mantra could be if we as visitors are cheery and respectful then the staff at LI will be too 😀 We seen over the years some very rude people who have both eaten and drunk there and shown the staff very little respect. Maybe we should remember as people to be kind and respectful to each other.

So let me get this right; If we as customers are cheerful and respectful then we will receive good service.....if not, then we won't. Seems an odd mantra for customer service to me!!!

"Roll up, Roll up - special deals tonight for cheerful customers only!!!"

:confused:I don't think so.

WOW well I assure you neither myself my family or my friends have never been drunk disorderly or rude to any member of staff in any restaurant. To try turn this on its head is a little odd to say the least. Its common Knowledge in the Port that Little Italy has its preferred clients and at times can be rude to the rest.
I have experienced this first hand. By all means defend the restaurant but do not put the blame for the attitude they often have on the customers. As I said earlier IMO the only reason they have survived this long is the location many locals voted with their feel along time ago

I have to agree with many of the posters - we go every year, several times a visit and have for the last 5 yrs since our little girl was one. You would never think we've visited before. We are still treated with the same disinterest and I would like to add that we are a VERY happy, cheery, polite family.
Why do we keep going back then? Because the pizzas are really lovely and it's in our sunbathing spot of the beach. However I have to say Casa Vila has been taking our custom more of an evening.

In the interest of being fair - as a family we have ordered many a take-a-away from LI and can't say a bad word about them from that point of view, and they'll happily allow you a beer while you wait, busy or not. So please don't miss out on that aspect on account of the waiting staff :)

This Thread was entitled "Are the Pizzas at Little Italy any good?", and without exception everyone has said "Yes, they are"; so in the interests of fairness, I think that nobody is disputing that - just the customer service!

Could not agree more nothing wrong with the Pizza. But I think people need to be aware that the experience is probably not going to leave them feeling warm and fuzzy. And it does not reflect the general attitude of hard working Bar and restaurant staff in the Port. Thank goodness .So yes Enjoy the Pizza but be aware the Staff can at times IMO and many others opinion it would seem be distant, arrogant and rude.
